Additional Comments

I downloaded Adobe Reader DC 2015.020.20039 in french for Windows 7. The protocol is based on . I started with a fresh wine directory configured for windows XP. I then added a few winetricks : $ wget $ chmod +x winetricks $ ./winetricks atmlib riched20 wsh57 mspatcha Before installing, it was necessary to configure wine for windows 7. Installation completed successfully : $ wine AcroRdrDC1502020039_fr_FR.exe I then turned wine config back to Windows XP. On first boot, Acrobat needed to disable protected mode That's done ! Cheers

HowTo / Notes

Simple installation instructions

Submitting this installation guide for someone new to wine. Currently I could only get this to install using a Play on Linux installer with workarounds:

  1. Install Wine
  2. Install PlayonLinux
  3. Download the latest Adobe Reader from Adobe's website
  4. Run the Play on Linux Adobe Reader installer to install the software.
    1. If you get an error go to step 5
    2. If adobe installs fine then just go to step 10
  5. Now go to Configuration settings and change the wine configuration to Windows 7
  6. Go to the Misc tab in Configurations and select the option to run an exe
  7. Run the Adobe Reader installer this way
  8. Finally run the default Play on Linux Adobe Reader installer from Step 4 but make sure to overwrite existing bottle/drive and when the Adobe Exe starts installing just cancel out of it. This will ensure the remainder of the script from step 4 completes and icons are created
  9. Finally go back to the wine configuration and once again switch it to Windows 7
  10. Install the Microsoft fonts, especially the sego* fonts. This will ensure the pop-ups work as expected
XFA PDF forms

This is the only software that allows users to properly fill out XFA PDF forms. These forms are used by a lot of government agencies and other organizations. You cannot use the mobile versions of Adobe Reader to fill these forms either. You need a windows or Mac version to do this.

On Linux installing the windows Version of Adobe reader on wine allows you to get this ability.

Install Adobe Acrobat pro following your instructions. All went well . But I have to install windows 7 font pack to make visible all the tools and fonts of the adobe. I have to use adobe acrobat in order to open and fill XFA forms of Canadian government .

A big thank you . You saved my day.
