Additional Comments

If usb GPS receiver detection and communication worked then I would rate this gold. The mapcontrols are not needed for normal use at all. Start a new wine prefix (forcing it to 32 bit will allow you to install and access the same maps from mapsource also should you want it). WINEPREFIX=~/.garmin WINEARCH='win32' wine 'wineboot' Install the .net 4.5 framework from wine tricks wget http://winetricks.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/src/winetricks chmod +x winetricks sudo cp winetricks /usr/local/bin env WINEPREFIX=~/.garmin sh winetricks dotnet45 corefonts The installation of .net 4.5 will take some time and requires frequent user interaction to click ok, yes, close etc. Note especially well that the requirement to close and continue may appear *hidden as icon on the environment panel at the top of the screen (in ubuntu). If asked to "restart" select "later" If asked to "register" the xps reader select "register" once complete you can download and install Basecamp 4.2.5 eg: wget http://download.garmin.com/software/BaseCampLegacy_425.exe WINEPREFIX=~/.garmin wine BaseCampLegacy_425.exe

HowTo / Notes

Install Guide

Create a new 32-bit Wineprefix:

WINEPREFIX=~/.garmin WINEARCH='win32' wine wineboot -u

Install the .Net 4.5 framework using winetricks:

wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Winetricks/winetricks/master/src/winetricks
chmod +x winetricks
sudo cp winetricks /usr/local/bin

env WINEPREFIX=~/.garmin winetricks dotnet45 corefonts

The installation of the .Net 4.5 framework will take some time and requires frequent user interaction. Note especially well that the requirement to close and continue may appear *hidden as icon on the environment panel at the top of the screen (Ubuntu). If asked to restart select later. If asked to register the xps reader select register.

Once complete you can download and install Basecamp eg:

wget http://download.garmin.com/software/BaseCampLegacy_425.exe
WINEPREFIX=~/.garmin wine BaseCampLegacy_425.exe

Can't import Backroads Mapbooks map
by Daryl Suen on Wednesday August 28th 2019, 15:34
When I go to Maps > Manage Map Products > Unlock Regions > Import, then put in the .gma file I get "Map product not installed Region unlock code from (long string of characters).

Bascamp cannot detect handheld device so maps cannot be transferred from there.

Backroad Mapbook maps are supposed to work with basecamp and do work on a Windows system.

Have not tried a map bought directly from Garmin.

If someone has figured out how to make Backroad Mapbook maps work, please post.
