What works
The free "Tales of The Arabian Nights" board ran and was playable. Performance seemed normal, and no glitches were seen in the game itself.
What does not
The configuration utility, PBAConfig.exe, which can be launched by right-clicking on Pinball Arcade in Steam and choosing "Launch Configuration Utility", terminated on launch. Unfortunately, this utility is used to enable full-screen and to set the resolution -- without this working, playing the game in anything other than a small window at very low resolution is not possible.
Workarounds
The PBAConfig.exe utility creates a 44-byte "settings.dat" file in ~/.wine/drive_c/users/currentuser/My Games/Pinball Arcade/settings.dat. This contains the resolution and fullscreen settings.
I was able to start a Windows 7 VM, generate this file with appropriate settings using PBAConfig.exe there (which, confusingly-to-me, was located at "c:/users/currentuser/My Games/Pinball Arcade/Pinball Arcadesettings.dat", in the VM, and then overwrite the "settings.dat" file on the Linux machine using the generated file. After that, the game ran in fullscreen and at full resolution in WINE.
What was not tested
I did not test boards other than "Tales of The Arabian Nights".
