What works

Joystick Saitek x52 (moderately--Im not even a novice when it comes to programming any of this, but it does work--dead zones are a bit wide on it's own, I recommend installing a wine version of a freeware joystick mapper, as the Control program in wine is hit and miss in later versions

Gameplay Campaigns--  Your wingman is slow and very stupid.  I recommend running through a mission yourself, leaving him on base, check out every waypoint... ...then restart, having planned out your attack a bit more carefully (intel is often wrong on the numbers or descriptions are extremely vague in the mission briefings).

Haven't tried any multiplayer yet, but I know that it will connect to the internet.  I have done so using a bottled firefox browser to link to a webpage, but haven't tried much for the multiplayer.

What does not

Running in renderer set to directx (OpenGL, d3dx, ddr).

I had to set renderer to GDI to get past the intro splash and stop the flickering screen.  May require a no-flicker (or no double-buffer) version of wine to be compiled.

Additional Comments

Use the win7 fix, and set your renderer to GDI. This game requires directx to be installed, but can work fine with GDI, the memory cleanup is really slow however. If I could get past the splash screen and menus flickering, it runs alright with d3dx9, probably even faster with d3dx11. With 800x600 res, this game runs fine, but I can't wait to try to run it in devmod 1024x768 res. It's more native to my setup and screen size, and is essentially the minimum my os actually shows for the display. Should help with memory problems as the re-render of the 800x600 takes some time to adjust upward. I've even had this baby running on a second, much larger, screen! So awesome, but the gfx are so shawdy compared to today's stuff.
