Subtitle Edit

What works

Basic functionality for a couple of minutes after launch.

Integration with Windows install of VLC.

What does not

MPV is the default media player for SubtitleEdit, but causes a crash with wine.

The waveform does not show a silence line (i.e. a flat waveform when there is silence) properly.

The entire window has been freezing within a few minutes of launch, sometimes with graphical glitches. Seems to have to do with the waveform display, or definitely with transitioning between playback and paused video.

Workarounds

Installing the Windows version of VLC to the wine prefix and using it as the video player instead restores Windows-like functionality.

No existing workaround for the eventual freeze-up is known.

What was not tested

Language translations.

Extensive program use.

Additional Comments

As of current, I recommend that the user not use wine to run SubtitleEdit 3.x, but rather that they install Mono, an open source implementation of the Microsoft .NET framework, via the official Mono repository, and run the program with Mono instead (not to be confused with wine-mono).
