Additional Comments
Before installing this game it is very highly recommended that you start with a clean Wine prefix. After making a clean Wine prefix, you can run the installer as normal ( wine setup_elminage_gothic_2.0.0.1.exe or wine setup_elminage_gothic_2.0.0.1.exe /nogui ) and click through a few errors that pop up during the last portion of the install process. Even though the errors popped up during the install process, I have not noticed any problems with running the game. After installing the game, you will need a few winetricks in order to play. The winetricks are as follows: d3dx9 quartz devenum wmp9 After installing the aforementioned winetricks, the game will run normally. The background music and sound effects are set to "1" in the game options so if you do not hear any sound, please check the in-game options and make sure your sound settings are not set at "1" before playing the game. The only issue I have experienced with a clean prefix install of the GOG version of Elminage Gothic is a bug with Pulse Audio ( ALSA lib pcm.c:7843:(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occurred ) where the sound becomes really distorted and starts playing at a higher speed. This sound issue occurs mostly when you click on any button that has a separate sound that plays while the background music plays. I have had some success in reducing the underrun occurrences by editing the following lines in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf: default-fragments = 5 default-fragment-size-msec = 2 You can try tweaking the values in those two lines to see what works for you if you are not interested in disabling Pulse Audio in Wine. The underrun issue is the only reason I give the game a silver rating. Credit goes to dtgreene from the GOG.com forums for the suggestions regarding which winetricks to install: https://www.gog.com/forum/elminage_gothic/running_elminage_gothic_under_wine_1753_attempts/post5
