Additional Comments

On a clean prefix, I ran "winetricks vcrun2012" as the game requires the MSVC++ 2012 runtimes. I did not use any DLL overrides. I tried to use the DirectX 9 renderer offered by the game but it was way too crash-prone for me so I HIGHLY recommend playing the game using the OpenGL renderer. I did not notice a discernible difference in visual quality between the DX9 and OpenGL renderers. After installing the game, I simply ran it by running the launcher with "wine GoGLauncher.exe", selecting my options, and clicking "START". The launcher offers a variety of options and this is my configuration that works for me: http://i.imgur.com/bDsJaj9.jpg . Feel free to tweak and adjust your configuration until you strike a balance between graphics and performance via Wine. I did notice a particular issue with the game that has been an issue since version 1.03 (versions prior to 1.03 were not 32-bit compatible). The issue is that when your ship gets blown up the game has you exit to the main menu where you should be able to load up a previous save. Unfortunately, when going back to the main menu after dying the main menu does not offer the choice to load up a save and just has the options "New Game" and "Exit" listed. In order to load up a previous save after dying in the game, you have to exit the game completely and then you are able to load a save as normal. Another thing to note about the game is that its executable is basically universal and that means you should be able to run it in 64-bit or 32-bit Wine.
