What works

Using Kontakt as a stand alone application for configuration purposes (without audio or midi), and (fully featured) as a 64-bit VSTi plugin in linux-native Bitwig-Studio.

Used:

Bitwig Studio 1.3.12

Airwave 1.2.1-2

What does not

Audio/midi in the standalone app didn't work for me, but I'm also unfamiliar with audio/midi in wine. My sound cards + midi devices showed up, but the application didn't indicate it was receiving any midi input, and manually triggering notes on the virtual keyboard did not produce sound.

Additional Comments

I configured Wine's 'Windows Version' to 'Windows 7'. A native versions of MSVCR120.DLL needs to be installed in the appropriate system directories as installation of the Visual C++ 2013 packages does not install the .dll's properly.Configure overrides for this .dll to "native". 1. Use the Wine Configuration tool "winecfg" to set the Windows Edition to Windows 7 2. Install Kontakt 3. Obtain the MSVCR120.DLL from an existing Windows installation, or from a dll site such as www.dll-files.com (see md5sums below) 4. Place the .dll's in the following directories: a. 64 bit .dlls go into /home/username/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 b. 32 bit .dlls go into /home/username/.wine/drive_c/windows/syswow64 c. (No, windows32/syswow64 are not swapped here. 64-bit libraries DO go into a directory with '32' in the name, and 32-bit libraries DO go into a directory with '64' in the name.) 5. Use the Wine Configuration tool "winecfg" to set the override for 'msvcr120' to be set as 'native, builtin' 6. Configure Airwave to create a link between your installed 'VSTPlugins 64 bit/Kontakt 5.dll' and a directory you wish to use for VSTs in Bitwig. 7. Launch Bitwig; add your Bitwig VST directory; add VST as track! tested md5sums: 034ccadc1c073e4216e9466b720f9849 ms32/msvcr120.dll 9c861c079dd81762b6c54e37597b7712 ms64/msvcr120.dll

HowTo / Notes

Workarounds needed to get Kontakt Running in Wine.
During installation Wine needs to be configured to Windows 7, but the application will not run unless Wine is running under Windows XP mode after installation.

Native versions of MSVCP120.DLL and MSVCR120.DLL need to be installed in the appropriate system directories as installation of the Visual C++ 2013 packages do not install the .dll's properly. Configure overrides for both of these .dll's to "native".

1. Use the Wine Configuration tool "winecfg" to set the Windows Edition to Windows 7
2. Install Kontakt
3. Obtain the .dll's from an existing Windows installation, or from a dll site such as www.dll-files.com
4. Place the .dll's in the following directories:
a. 64 bit .dlls go into /home/username/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32
b. 32 bit .dlls go into /home/username/.wine/drive_c/windows/syswow64
5. Use the Wine Configuration tool "winecfg" to set the override for the .dll's to be set as "native"
6. Use the Wine Configuration tool "winecfg" to set the Windows Edition to Windows XP
7. Run Kontakt
