What works

  • Single player gameplay (finished entire game)
  • All DLC

What does not

  • Sound (has workaround, see below)
  • Cloud-saves in Origin don't work on exiting the game as it seems that origin doesn't detect it has closed at all. Cloud saves work fine otherwise though.

What was not tested

  • 64-bit wineprefix

Hardware tested

  • GPU:
  • Driver:

Additional Comments

Origin was installed with the workaround (see After that Mass Effect installs fine from Origin and starts without further hassle. However on my system sound was not functioning. To work around this, add a dll override for 'openal32' and set it to 'builtin'. After several hours of play sometimes the game will crash with a message that it has ran out of heap space, this has only happened on the Normandy for me. I do not know if this is Wine specific at all.

Get audio to work

Add the following under the "[ISACTAudio.ISACTAudioDevice]" section:

DeviceName=Generic Software

Ensure "Hardware Audio" is turned off in Sound settings in game

To get the MEUITM installer to work

A custom MassEffectModder.exe must be suppliedThis is seemingly due to it using functions not fully implemented in wine/mono
A hacky, usable version can be found here:

Occasional "rendering exception" error while playing MEIUTM requires your game's binary be large address aware.
MassEffect.exe can be patched using this tool:
Make a backup before patching!
