What works

Everything from the single player game appears to work. Conversations, puppet battles, and so on.

The launcher and automatic updater also function, as does manual patching.

What does not

The in-game font may be unreadable if you don't have good asian font support installed/configured.

What was not tested

Network play was not tested. (It's only available upon completing the game).

Low-visibility areas were untested (certain caves -- they only appear later in the game).

Hardware tested

  • GPU:
  • Driver:

Additional Comments

Requires locale launch option 'env LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8' The in-game font is thicker than usual when using default installation. Install MS japanese fonts for SHIFT_JIS encoding to better reproduce the way the game plays in the windows environment. The game will automatically switch to a joystick if you have one configured; therefore it's recommended to disable any joystick devices from gaming keyboards/mice in the Wine configuration panel. Requires the base game to be installed before the expansion can run. It's necessary to install the expansion in a separate folder from the original game, unlike what is customary with the Tasofro fighters.

HowTo / Notes

Fixing broken gibberish text

It's usually happen if your default system not in Japanese locale (which is usually ja-JP.UTF-8). Wine running from en-US.UTF-8 locale system will also will follow the locale set by default).

Since this game only released in Japanese by the developer. It's will only follow Japanese locale (which is again usually ja-JP.UTF-8).

Even though this game have unofficial English translation patch due to thankfully the effort made by fans. Usually the patch won't modified the game EXE to support English locale (which is usually en-US.UTF-8).

So to amend this problem you need to add Japanese locale support your system. To do that on Ubuntu, you can add Japanese locale support by searching for Language Support from your Launcher and add Japanese support from there. It'll automatically download and install necessary files. But if you fancy terminal more just use sudo apt-get install language-pack-ja language-pack-ja-base language-pack-gnome-ja language-pack-gnome-ja-base .

Obviously it'll only add support for Japanese locale but won't make the game suddenly use Japanese locale (except, if you suddenly switch to Japanese locale) and since we only want to run that game only in Japanese locale you just need to use terminal to run env LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8 wine path/to/game.exe to run the game in Japanese locale (you can do the same when trying to install the game).

But you depend on your WINE version the game fonts looks very awkward when you run it on Linux and not like when you run it on Windows. Which is obvious since the game will use available fonts on your system and the game intended by the developer to use Windows Japanese fonts.

To amend that one just use (if not installed, you can from terminal you do sudo apt-get install winetricks and then sudo winetricks --self-update) winetricks fakejapanese to install Windows Japanese fonts.
