Update: The sound problems seem to be related to a PulseAudio issue and is not particularly a problem with wine itself. It affects native linux application/games as well (Like Flightgear), and isn't a problem on all systems running 9.10 versions of Ubuntu. If you are experiencing audio problems, specifically "popping" and "clicking" noises and a general increase in lag, a possible solution is downgrading to a version of your OS that does not use Pulseaudio.(Example: Version 9.04 of Ubuntu) Or wait for future improvements to PulseAdio. Ratings change: Changed from Silver to Gold to reflect this finding.
