What works

Plays great, having followed the other installation instructions and workarounds (as below). Has been played for a few weeks without any reported issues from child.

What does not

Needed workarounds to install

Workarounds

winetricks vcrun2010 vcrun2013 vcrun2017

What was not tested

I don't know the game well enough to comment, installing for a child. Previously this was run under Win10 in VirtualBox, which was awful.

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Intel
  • Driver: open source

Additional Comments

Wine v3.7 (not available in drop-down) straight from openSUSE Leap 15.0 repo.

I think I had to add a wine-mono repo from after searching on opensuse.org.

The following worked, cleanly (/home on a very small SSD, so game data installed/saved onto larger HDD under /usr/local/data):

WINEPREFIX=/home/user1/.wine32 WINEARCH=win32 wine winecfg
WINEPREFIX=/home/user1/.wine32 winetricks vcrun2010 vcrun2013 vcrun2017
   #note 2013 & 2017 needed to click "Close"
WINEPREFIX=/home/user1/.wine32 wine ~/Downloads/OriginThinSetup.exe
   #93MiB 9_13_0_62213.zip
   #had to accept "Restart computer" from wine just after doing the "Accept
   #EULA", which said the 'Roots had changed' - might have been the vc++
   #install?? download carried on happily

"Looks like your operating system could do with an update" skipped!
Cleared Origin->Application Settings->Origin In Game->Enable Origin In Game
My Games->Install
  choose a different drive -> /usr/local/data/user1/eagames
#said Installing, then Resuming Download, took about 5 mins

LG monitor complained was in 1600x900 resolution and not 1920x1080
Changed in-game resolution under ...->Game Options->
Also dropped into Windowed mode

To open game click on desktop TheSims4 icon
        brings up two small overlays and the launches full screen
To close, exit in game. Then need to right click exit on Origin icon in task bar - does finally clean up the two overlays after about 30secs
