Additional Comments

Bought $10 blue USB OBD2 cable from eBay claiming to be for Vag-Com or VCDS. Had vendor id 0x1a86 (QinHeng Electronics) and product id 0x7523 HL-340 USB-Serial adapter. Software recognized it fine and was able to connect to it. The biggest drawback was the noticeably glitchy interface and communications compared to running it on windows. Ended up running it in VirtualBox without issue. Needed to link say com1 to the usb serial (ln -s /dev/ttyUSB0 ~/.wine/dosdevices/com1) and set write permissions (chmod 777 /dev/ttyUSB0). Noticed the 'registration' doesn't work even on winXP. It works initially and makes 3 files but they get deleted once testing the OBD2 connection. Therefore someone came up with a nasty windows batch file which persistently replaced the files if they got deleted. Never tried it in Wine but in theory could simply set read-only permission to the files in linux. This software does not work with the Bluetooth OBD2 adapter since the adapter is missing the firmware version and can't be updated.
