Game doesn't work for me
by Jonathan Holmes on Wednesday July 13th 2016, 23:23
I tried downloading this game off Steam and it failed to run on Wine on Ubuntu 16.04. At first, it wouldn't start at all because it was trying to install .NET 4.0. I then used winetricks to install .NET 4.0, but after doing that, the game reported the following error and failed to start:

err:module:import_dll Library mscoree.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Angels Fall First\\Binaries\\AFFLift.exe") not found

Update: I appear to have fixed the .NET issues. However, neither my NVidia graphics desktop nor my Intel graphics laptop can start the game in either DirectX or OpenGL mode, with either 32-bit or 64-bit wine. I've tried lots of winetricks dlls to try to solve the problem but none of them help.

OpenGL mode can't work on Intel graphics because it uses a GL extension those drivers don't support. It doesn't work on NVidia graphics either, crashing with an error about undefined variables.

DirectX mode on Intel and NVidia fail similarly, though Intel has a fixme note that it doesn't support the features required, while NVidia doesn't. For DirectX, the game starts and plays music, but there are no graphics at all, and generally no window.
