8. About
1. Versions & Compatibility
This patch was created for Wine release 1.0.1 stable and Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex. It's highly likely that it will run under Other versions of Linux and Wine, but this is untested. It will perhaps even run under Mac OSX, but this is also untested. If you test this, please send a mail with your results to [email protected]. If you want to have more information about my tested software and hardware, you can also send me a mail.
2. Installing & Configuring Wine
Firstly, you must install Wine. In Ubuntu, you can just go to the package manager and search for Wine, it should pop up so you can install it. After the install you must configure Wine. The default settings need a few modifications (thanks to Thomas Egenhofer and Rodnei Reis from WineHQ for this information!):
-Set the Windows version to Windows 2000 (under applications).
-You must go to libraries and set four library overrides. In the dropdown menu search for each of these files: msvcrt, ole32, oledlg and olepro32. Click on add, and they should appear in the list below. Behind them you should see (native, builtin).
When this is done, you have finished configuring Wine.
3. Installing Supreme Snowboarding
This is very simple. Insert your CD, and Ubuntu will mount it. When it asks to run the autorun, press no, beacuse it will not work. You must explore the CD and click on setup.exe. Just follow the installer until the end, and you're done with this step.
4. Install the patch and the Add-On
When you're done with the installer, it is highly recommended to install the official Supreme Snowboarding Patch and the unofficial Supreme Snowboarding Add-On (in this order). You can get them both at www.supreme-snowboarding.tk. If you want to play without the need for a CD in the drive, you can install the Add-On and copy the folders 'Anims' and 'Music' from the data folder on the CD to a self-created 'data' folder in the C:/ root of Wine.
5. Configuring Supreme Snowboarding
There are two settings menu's in Supreme Snowboarding: you'll get to see one befor you start the game, the other is in the in-game options menu.
In the Startup Options, you must select 'OpenGL' and 'Generic OpenGL' as render device. When you don't see OpenGL and Generic OpenGL, check if you've installed the proprietary drivers for your video card (check the Ubuntu forums on this matter). If you've installed those and OpenGL doesn't pop up, try rebooting your PC one or two times. You also need to disable the intro video, because it doesn't work (if you want to see it that bad, it's on the CD in /data/intro/).
In the in-game options menu, go to graphics, select 'custom' and then 'configure custom'. To set the 'Texture Quality' and 'Texture Resolution' on the highest settings is recommended, because the Linux Patch is tested on those settings. The tickboxsettings underneath don't really matter, but if you don't know what you're doing, leave them.
6. Installing The Wine Patch
The Wine Patch is located in the same directory as this text file. Run it, and install it in the same folder as where you installed Supreme Snowboarding. After this, you can run the game. Congratulations, you now have a Wine-Compatible version of this awesome game on your computer!
7. MK Patches & Recolors
On www.supreme-snowboarding.tk you can find a whole lot of optional installers and tips made by MK. These work just fine under Wine, although you will need to press alt+tab after you've opened them to install them, because you'll get to see a odd green screen first. In the rare occasion some objects turn black after the applying of a patch, you can try to run the Wine Patch again. If that doesn't work, try to revert the changes of the patch (maybe even manually) or convert the installed textures to RGB colours.
