What works

everything, but you need to run the game at a standalone X server without anything (no desktop environment), or the game has no graphics and a frozen screen, with just the sound playing

What does not

graphics if a desktop environment is running in background, workaround: standalone plain X session (only xterm in background or even better nothing)

Additional Comments

Rated Gold, because you must run the game from a standalone X server, when there is a DE in background, like KDE, GNOME, Unity, or everything else the game has a frozen screen and doesn't work. Also the game changes your resolution to something low (maybe 480p or something). Make sure xrandr works.

HowTo / Notes

Setup a standalone X server

To run a secondary X server you need permissions. There are 2 ways to gain permissions if your user account hasn't any.

Method 1

If the following executable exists /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg run chmod +s /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg

Start a server with xinit /usr/bin/xterm -e "bash" $* -- :1 vt8

Method 2

If it not exists, your distro is configured to allow every user to spawn a X server using the xinit command. Create a ~/.xinitrc file.
