What works

Everything works, including mods.

What does not

Stellaris in Wine is incredibly slow to load compared to natively on Windows and compared to natively on Linux.

Be prepared to wait over ten minutes to load up the game, and once on the game, there can be stutters when doing something new.

Also, the EULA is blank. But this is incredibly minor.

Workarounds

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

Other test results mention workarounds to make it run, but it runs without workarounds for me. Make sure you have a 64-bit prefix.

I'm giving it Silver due to the fact that everything works perfectly, despite it being slow, but because of the slowness I do not recommend this for normal use.

You should probably use the native Mac or Linux version of the game instead of running it in Wine.

HowTo / Notes

Graphical bug workarounds

Possibly only on older versions of wine, there may be graphical issues with the program, including black screen on launch, corrupted textures, etc. These issues, especially the black screen issue, may be race conditions and are sometimes resolved when restarting the program, erasing the wineprefix, or rebooting the computer. As a permanent solution, try one or more of the following:

  • winetricks d3dx9_36
  • winetricks d3dcompiler_43 (slow)
  • -dx9legacy (slow?)
  • -opengl (may not show colored map regions)

Problems on Solus
by hfel on Thursday April 26th 2018, 15:36
Had problems running it on Solus; had to install the nvidia package, even though I have an integrated Intel GPU. Not sure if it was the driver or some dependent libs that solved the issue.
