I have also found that it can be related to whether you have fullscreen or not. My game resolution already matched my screen, but there was phantom mouse input executing perpetual movement to the left (I tested this by decreasing mouse sensitivity, which resulted in the left movement to be slowed down as well). When I switched to borderless window mode, the issue went away. Considering the other comments, there might be a reason for this: In fullscreen mode (but with wine's "virtual desktop" feature enabled and set to the screen's resolution), the game resolution ended up not being quite perfect, but falling a few pixels short, a phenomenon I've experienced with kwin before (which is currently my window manager). That skew in resolution might have resulted in the phantom movement. Perhaps this might help someone else with that particular issue.
Stack overflow on launch
by Polt Smith on Wednesday October 10th 2018, 0:11
So, I get this kind of error when trying to launch Overwatch.exe:

019d:fixme:heap:RtlSetHeapInformation 0x3780000 0 0x23cf50 4 stub
019d:err:seh:setup_exception stack overflow 2272 bytes in thread 019d

Any idea how I could fix that?
Doesn't launch on any version I try
by Florens on Saturday April 14th 2018, 16:53
Upon launching the game a dialog pops up saying: 'Game Initialization Failed!'. When launching Battle.net I also get a dialog saying that SystemSurvey.exe Failed.

by Polt Smith on Wednesday October 10th 2018, 0:00
SystemSurvey crashing is more of a Battle.net problem, so see this for that: appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=33746&sAllBugs

Also, launch the game in terminal in order to get more specific error messages, these could make it easier to at least identify your problem.

Hard freeze
by Simon Kristensen on Sunday April 8th 2018, 2:53
Anyone else experiencing that the computer does a hard freeze and I need to hold the power button. I've just installed OW tried using wine 3.3 PBA & wine 3.5 staging. I have tried to play 3 games now. First game it froze 1 sec before losing a match. The two other games it froze just as the game was about to start, before the spawn area opens. I am using amd graphics, kernel driver: amdgpu, mesa: 18.1 devel using oibaf ppa, ubuntu 16.04 linux kernel 16.0

by Landon Jobe on Sunday April 8th 2018, 21:41
I've experienced a hard freeze after a few minutes of play on my RX480 4GB in the past. Same setup with the mesa driver set. Going to attempt running the game on Arch, without any helper programs like Lutris or PlayOnLinux. Might help to use DXVK.

For amdgpu you need to set the following environment variable:

MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=4.0COMPAT

Insane lag
by Storm Engineer on Friday February 2nd 2018, 10:34
Anyone know anything about the lag issue?

Sometimes the game runs OK but sometimes it lags so badly that it becomes a slideshow of still images and sometimes freezes completely for 1-5 seconds even.

RE: Insane lag
by Jon Blackham on Friday February 2nd 2018, 10:46
Yeah, its from building shaders. I find it helpful to go use every ability in in a custom match with cooldowns removed every wine/overwatch/gpu driver update a couple times to build most of them before playing with anyone online. It definitely doesn't get rid of the issue but it does help a lot.
RE: Insane lag

So I would have to play every single hero and use every single ability once? That would take more time than the time I want to spend playing at a time :(
Mouse pulling towards sky
by Storm Engineer on Thursday September 28th 2017, 9:26
My cursor constantly pulls towards the sky. (see bug #42675 ) None of the new Bronze results mention having this issue, so I wonder, anyone knows a workaround or temp fix?

This has to do with Resolution and Aspect Ratio, make sure they are set correctly. If you have an ultrawide screen, you might have to change your desktop resolution to something "normal" like 1920x1080.

by pimmesselink@gmail.com on Friday September 29th 2017, 9:51
That used to work for my 4:3 monitor, but I am no longer able to select wide-screen resolutions for this display connected to a nvidia gfx card.
RE: Mouse pulling towards sky
by Storm Engineer on Saturday September 30th 2017, 2:21
Oh! My resolution was set correctly to my screen's native 1680 * 1050, but for whatever reason it had 16:9 aspect ratio instead of the correct 16:10. I was even wondering about the black bars on top and bottom...

After setting the correct aspect, it works!

Thank you very much! :D

I'm aware it's been a month since this was posted but:

Wine had a bug with 64-bit applications when compiled with GCC 7. It usually results in a stack overflow like the one you got. bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43127

Wine 2.10 (and by extension 2.10-staging) has the bug fixed. The fix has been backported (by me :D) to wine-overwatch 2.9 as a stopgap until wine-ow 2.10 is ready.
So, uh, recompile wine-overwatch and it should work.
