What works

"Everything" required to play the game with the workaround

accessing menu, shops, gear, perks, items, opening crate, recycling skin, etc

(certain winetricks and setting the game to DX10 mode):

installation via Steam,

  • gameplay (4 full map rounds, not stable less than 30 FPS with hiccups), (probably caused by low spec)
  • sound,
  • mouse & keyboard input,
  • low quality graphics (1366x768 resolution),
  • fullscreen, borderless, and windowed modes

What does not

need a task manager to completely close the game.game will stuck on task manager.

slow startup with installing .net framework everytime it starts

be careful when starting the game trying to skip the video might end up closing the game instead.

be patient when waiting for game to start (after video) it'll play sound but take quite long time to show the main menu

Playing in DX11 Mode broke the game graphic make it unplayable at all (ingame) but still able to use the menu

Workarounds

Install the following winetricks before running the game:

corefonts steam dx3dx9_42 vcrun2008 vcrun2015 xact csmt=on

Add -dx10 to the launch options on Steam.

run steam with :

WINEPREFIX=/path/to/prefix WINEDEBUG=-all wine /path/to/steam.exe -no-cef-sandbox parameter

What was not tested

nothing afaik

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

Optimus Laptop (probably not minimum specification) :
Intel Core i5 3317
NVIDIA 740M with proprietary

HowTo / Notes

Running Killing Floor in DirectX 10 mode

Killing Floor 2 uses DirectX 11 features by default. If you're not inclined to use DXVK which translates D3D11 calls to Vulkan, and knowing WINE DirectX 11 support is not yet complete, you should use DirectX 10 mode instead. To enable this, launch Killing Floor 2 with the `-DX10` option.
