What works

Everything game-wise except some audio and video.

What does not

Crashes due to audio problems with quartz. Terminal will be flooded with an error in areas that play offending background music:

003c:fixme:quartz:Parser_OutputPin_QueryInterface No interface for {56a868a5-0ad4-11ce-b03a-0020af0ba770}!

This alone does not appear to cause problems and audio will all be fine, but a crash will occur under some circumstances when sounds play.

Using alt+enter to toggle fullscreen does weird things. In one game it causes the confirm button to stop working in the game, in another it causes X to lock up until Game.exe is killed.

If the game contains a script called Fullscreen++ you can bypass this problem by fullscreening with F5 rather than alt-enter, however not all games use this script.

Workarounds

Disabling quartz in winecfg removes the danger of crashing the game, but disables the offending audio from playing. Non-offending audio continues to function as does the game.

Additional Comments

Depending on the specific game, crashing can possibly be avoided without disabling quartz, which may be preferable to losing a lot of background music.

This testing was not really extensive, just enough to find that quartz was the problem- gstreamer also produces some errors but hasn't produced crashes in my case.

After checking which sounds were working in-game without quartz and which weren't: ogg works perfectly while mp3, wav and mid do not.
