It's running in its own, clean 32-bit prefix.

no sound ; four years late but I think I've found the solution
by Vivienne on Wednesday September 6th 2023, 23:19
I also had no sound but I think I've found the solution; at least it has worked so far:
ntcore.com/?page_id=371
I downloaded and applied the 4gb_patch to 'DAOrigins.exe' and the sound is back.

Heavy stuttering with CSMT, no stuttering with StrictDrawOrdering
by Galen on Friday September 15th 2017, 15:04
I'm using Wine 2.16 32 Bit on Kubuntu 14.04 64 Bit, my CPU is an Athlon II X3 435 2,9 Ghz.

- no CSMT or StrictDrawOrdering: Videos don't show, game runs smoothly on highest settings with vsync on.
- CSMT: Videos show with minor stuttering, game stutters heavily on medium+ settings, vsync drops FPS extremely.
- StrictDrawOrdering: Videos are fine and smooth, game runs smoothly on the highest settings with vsync on.

So, if you experience low FPS or stuttering with CSMT, try to enable StrictDrawOrdering (to be removed in 3.0).

I can confirm, with Wine 4.0, that with CSMT there is heavy stuttering when moving the camera around much and/or walking, even in scenes with little complexity. Without, the cutscenes flicker and turn invisible after a second or so, but the game itself is playable. Also, I had to set a virtual desktop to fix input issues repeatedly cropping up after a few minutes of play (over sensitive mouse control of camera, complete loss of input after alt-tab).

AMD R285, mesa 18.3.5, kernel 4.19, wine vanilla with 32bit prefix.

by Zootal on Monday May 15th 2017, 9:32
So I installed wine-staging 2.7 so I could enable CSMT. Created a brand new 32 bit prefix, set Strict Draw Ordering to enabled. And it works. Just like that.
Ultimate Edition immediately crashes to desktop. Standard edition works fine.
by Zootal on Friday May 12th 2017, 9:53
I can get the regular version to run, but the Ultimate Edition immediately crashes to desktop. Nothing of interest in console. Is there any thing special about the Ultimate edition, or any additional setup necessary to get it to work?

What version of wine are you using?
Should work for 2.5 upwards.

You need a 32bit prefix, you should have CSMT enabled under winecfg.
And do require dotnet20 for the Ultimate edition which tries to connect online. Maybe you also an need an Origin account... ?

Hope it helps!
Cecco

PS: Here is how I got it working recently:

Wine 2.5 I think, because of problems I had with Wine 2.6 and 2.7. I'll verify tonight. Might have been a 64 bit prefix, I'll check that also tonight and run through the rest of the stuff. Results to follow!
Black screen after Alt+Tab?
by Shmerl on Sunday July 17th 2016, 14:24
I'm playing DA: Origins now (Wine staging 1.9.14), and it works well, I only had to install physx (there was no need to do direct ordering in my case). There is one issue though. Once I Alt+Tab out of the application and go back, it becomes all black, and I need to force quit it. Did you experience anything like that?

System: Debian testing, KDE Plasma 5.

I get something similar. When I ALT+Tab out and back, the mouse doesn't go back to the "game mouse cursor" and game can't be played anymore, neither mouse nor keyboard do anything.

I did NOT get the physx-error though, but that might be because I installed through PlayonLinux

I'm using wine 1.9.3 staging (activated CSMT) on Ubuntu 14.04 using Gnome3

At least for me, using ALT+ESC instead of Tab fixes this.
