What works

  • Installer (barely)
Installer used is the 2nd disc of the Space Quest Collection Series

What does not

  • The game

Will complain about not being able to find RESOURCE.WIN if not run with options:

wine SIERRAW.EXE -o "wine\path\to\RESOURCE.WIN"

So if the game was installed in C:\SIERRA\SQ6 using the "45MB" mode, this is the command:

wine SIERRAW.EXE -o "C:\SIERRA\SQ6\RESOURCE.WIN"

It will then complain about missing SIERRA.ERR, which is on the CD, so start it in the directory of your CD, such as /cdrom or /media/cdrom0 or whatever.

It will then crash spectacularly with:

wine: Unhandled exception 0x80000003 at address 0x1357:0x000035f7 (thread 000d), starting debugger...

or something similar
