What works

Launcher
- It Updates!
- YouTube Videos!

Game
- Entire game works flawlessly

Instructions:
Download PlayOnLinux
Download Wine 1.7.38
Create a new 32 bit Virtual Drive (Select Wine 1.7.38)
Name the drive "Smite"
Click the newly created drive
Click Install Components
    1 - Install dotnet35sp1
    2 - Install dotnet40
    3 - Install Flash Player
    4 - Install dxfullsetup
    5 - Install xact
    6 - Install vcrun2008
    7 - Install vcrun2010
    8 - Install gdiplus
9 - Install Adobe Flash ActiveX
    + Download Adobe Flash ActiveX
    + Click Miscellaneous Tab
+ Click "Run a .exe file in this virtual drive"
+ Search for the file you just downloaded (It should be "install_flash_player_ax.exe")
    + Follow installation instructions
+ When prompted to select "When to update Flash Player" Select "Never check for updates"
     10 - Install Smite
+ Change your Systems Date between "2011 - 2013" Otherwise you won't be able to update Smite (I put the year at 2012)
    + Download the Launcher
+ Click "Run a .exe file in this virtual drive" again
+ Search for the Smite Launcher installation file
+ Follow the instructions (Install wherever you want, I kept everything as default settings)
11 - Allow Smite to download the game
12 - Click the "General Tab"
13 - Click Create a shortcut (If it hasn't already come up)
14 - Click HiRezLauncherUI.exe and name it "Smite"
15 - In the General Tab put "game=300 product=17" (without quotes) in the arguments text box
16 - Go to Miscellaneous Tab put "net start HiPatchService" into the exec before running textbox
     17 - Profit

Sometimes the patcher will bug out when updating the game, or freeze. If you have a Up-To-Date version of smite AND HiRezLauncher you can follow these instructions.
1 - Replace your HiRez folder with the "Up-To-Date" version HiRez Folder
2 - Run Smite through PlayOnLinux and Click "Fix"
3 - Let Smite Validate and Update
    4 - Play the game :)

What does not

Everything works, but in order to log in your System time HAS to be between 2011 - 2013. Once you log in, you can change it back to whatever. There was a support ticket made about this issue #150524-000184

Sometimes when you launch smite you will get a black window. I found that alt + tab out of the game, and then alt + tab back in fixes it everytime for me. This has only happened to me when launching Smite.

When running Fix from the launcher you might get a "Dialog Box" that is completely black with a title of "Microsoft .Net Framework" I don't know what it is, but I closed it, and it didn't affect anything.

EasyAntiCheat
by Ivailo on Thursday March 2nd 2017, 19:34
Can confirm, Smite was running very well on my Fedora 25 install with the latest kernel, amdgpu drivers and wine-2.2 (Staging). Now the game doesn't even launch sadly..

EAC was introduced in patch 4.3 and most likely broke this game under WINE.
IPv6
by Philipp Ludwig on Wednesday December 28th 2016, 7:26
After enabling IPv6 in the kernel, the Launcher works fine.
So if the launcher doesn't work for you: Check if you have disabled IPv6.
Installation errors
by Teo Klestrup Röijezon on Monday November 21st 2016, 15:43
Did you remember to set the OS to Windows 7 before installing? Winetricks has a bad habit of turning it back down to XP.

Also, some updates seem to bork the launcher/updater service, requiring you to recreate the WINEPREFIX from scratch before it'll work again.
RE: Installation errors
by Philipp Ludwig on Wednesday November 23rd 2016, 12:18
I think one of the problems that Smite doesn't work with current wine could be that winetricks dotnet20sp2 always fails.
RE: Installation errors
by Teo Klestrup Röijezon on Thursday January 26th 2017, 1:47
Did you make sure to use a 32-bit WINEPREFIX?
RE: Installation errors
by Philipp Ludwig on Thursday January 26th 2017, 9:30
See my comment from the 28th December.
Also install dotnet20sp2 and corefonts
by Teo Klestrup Röijezon on Tuesday August 2nd 2016, 14:22
I forgot to mention that you also need to install dotnet20sp2 and corefonts (through winetricks) for the installer to work.

by Teo Klestrup Röijezon on Sunday July 31st 2016, 7:18
I can't seem to edit it anymore, but I've checked and online matches work fine as well.
It Won't Show The Intro Video
by reo on Monday January 11th 2016, 21:44
When I was installing Smite, I finally download it, when I try to launch it, it works, but it won't play the start up video. Here are some of my logs.

Smite is damaged
by Jan Peters on Sunday January 3rd 2016, 9:23
I've tried Steam, several installs. I've tried normal install, several times. I've tried crossover, several times. I've tried installing trough a script, several times

After the launcher downloads the game I keep getting the same problem, "SMITE is damaged and needs repair"

If I repair nothing changes, if I reinstall from the troubleshoot centre, nothing changes.

What am I doing wrong?
I am using ElementaryOS based on Ubuntu 14.04.
HP ProBook 470 G1:
-Intel Core i7-4702MQ CPU @ 2.20GHz - 8 core (not overclocked)
-Intel 4th Gen Core processor integrated graphics controller (rev06)

I've just uploaded a video on youtube to install SMITE

www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uWy1nqNp6M

For your problem

- Just close the launcher

- In a terminal kill all process by running

wineserver -k

Relaunch the server by clicking on the shorcut on your Desktop.

At the end of the installation if it hangs on "Smite...validating" then do the same step as above
Can't install, can anyone help?
by Max on Thursday December 24th 2015, 8:44
I'm using wine 1.8. Have set wine to Windows 7 and edited the hosts file to contain my IP, but I'm still doing something wrong.
Is the hosts file the file of my Linux installation or the one in the .wine windows folder?

Same here. I cannot get past the HiRez service starting. I followed the PlayOnlinx noted in the 14.04 installs. I installed all from wine and winetricks with no luck either.

You don't really need to add your IP.

Just run

winetricks hosts

That should add empty files (automatically)

${WINEPREFIX}/drive_c/windows/system32/drivers/etc/{hosts,services}

This way the launcher will be able to connect

Hello, this did not work. I have this now:pastebin.com/qYKcFBjM. No launcher or logon prompt. I can try to reinstall and test again.

I tried it with Gallium Nine and it works perfectly. I uploaded a video on youtube to show that the game works youtu.be/00RduLcByUo

But it should work with NVIDIA too :)

I don't use POL but winetricks.

If it can help you then here is the content of the script I use before installing this game (+ a couple of notes

winetricks -q d3dx10 d3dx9_43 dotnet35sp1 dotnet40 flash gdiplus vcrun2008 xact_jun2010

# This game requires VC RUN 2010 SP1 but winetricks doesn't install it
# Let download and install vcrun2010 sp1 as it should be done by winetricks

wget -q "download.microsoft.com/download/C/6/D/C6D0FD4E-9E53-4897-9B91-836EBA2AACD3/vcredist_x86.exe"

# Do a silent installation
wine vcredist_x86.exe "/q"

# Write a temporary file to set a couple of dll to "native"
cat vcrun2010sp1.reg
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\DllOverrides]
"msvcp100"="native"
"msvcr100"="native"
"vcomp100"="native"
"atl100"="native"
_EOF_

# Load this reg file
regedit vcrun2010sp1.reg

# Following line should be enough instead of filling IP in hosts file
winetricks win7 hosts

# Once you start the launcher it will complained that VC RUN 2008 SP1 is not installed.
# Just click on the install button and it should be OK (the installer will install VC RUN 2008 SP1 )

Hello,

I followed the above and now am stuck on "Smite is connecting to the Authentication Service." I can play the videos in the launcher.

Hello,

You suggestion did not work. The game is still stuck at connecting to service...

Did you try to get back to "Windows XP" instead of "Win7"?

On my tests I let it to "Windows WP" not "Win7"

Yes, set to Windows XP.
Running Smite on Ubuntu Willy
by yushir on Saturday November 14th 2015, 13:49
For those of you that updated to Ubuntu Willy, you need to take into account that there are a couple of packages that you will be required to install if you want to get Smite even to open:
packages.ubuntu.com/uk/trusty/i386/libnettle4/download
packages.ubuntu.com/uk/trusty/i386/libhogweed2/download

can't run HirezLauncherUI.exe
by Mina on Saturday October 31st 2015, 14:45
I've kinda followed the steps. I made a 32-bit wine prefix and I installed the components. I ran the first installer (the hirez installer) but when I run the hirezlauncher it gives a bulk of error! (below)

things I encountered but fixed my own way:
first of all I use playonlinux
couldn't find d3dx11_42 d3dx11_43 flash in the list.
d3dx11_42 and d3dx11_43 I installed with winetricks by setting the wineprefix to the one playonlinux created.
winetricks couldn't install flash so I downloaded it from their website. flash for windows 32 bits for internet explorer.

No Audio
by proz on Wednesday October 14th 2015, 5:16
I was able to install Smite just fine with the provided instructions.

I have pulse audio as the driver on the config, I've tried alsa and oss, but neither of them work. Also tried installing dsound. After I tried dsound native, builtin.

None of these worked.

When I start the game, if I go to the settings and then "Audio" it doesn't list any devices there.

It seems to not be working for me either, wine 1.7.53

Solution for me was that I was missing 32bit openal. `pacman -S lib32-openal` fixed it for me on arch
Notification Crash
by Alzarath on Friday October 2nd 2015, 17:52
The game seems to run okay. Performance could be better, but it's playable. One major issue I've noticed is when switching workspaces, receiving notifications, or basically anything visually happening on the screen over Smite. The game outright crashes.

Another issue is hard to summarize in a few words, but occasionally it seems to stop responding. For instance, when a match is found and you're given the option to hit the Accept button, sometimes nothing updates. You can click the Accept button, and it will ready you up, but it will not register that you or anyone else accepted. It will go into champion select and at the end, boot you for not selecting a champion.

This is a pretty major issue, as the anti-idle system will make it so you can't enter another match for some time after this. One way around it 'would' be to wait until you see other people accepting, but the anti-idle still affects you if you don't accept, and there's no way to decline otherwise besides allowing it to time out.

I've yet to find out what causes this or how to fix it.
RE: Notification Crash
by Alzarath on Friday October 2nd 2015, 19:11
The first issue can be avoided by simply closing programs that would steal focus or send notifications.

Also, the game often considers itself 'damaged' after an update. Validating/Repairing *can* fix the issue. This often takes multiple attempts to fix (the most recent of which I ended up restarting the launcher/validating 6-7 times).

All of these issues make the game undesirable to return to.
RE: Notification Crash
by Jacob Mischka on Sunday October 25th 2015, 3:20
It's just crashing because it's losing focus, a lot of games in wine will crash when they lose fullscreen focus. To fix this, just enable an emulated desktop and tick the automatically capture mouse in fullscreen windows options in winecfg and it should be fine
Play button does nothing

I followed the instructions and the game installs, but the Play button does nothing. Clicking on it just greys it out.

Found the problem, WinHTTP had to be set to (native, builtin).
Download hang?
by P on Monday August 31st 2015, 14:32
Does the initial game download hang randomly for anyone else? Any idea how to solve this?

I can copy over my install from my Win drive, but not everyone has that option.
If you can't start the launcher
by yushir on Monday August 31st 2015, 13:50
- Download full mono suite (e.g. sudo apt-get install mono-complete)
- Download wine-mono and wine-gecko (imho I downloaded all of them).

Make sure that you don't have the dll 'dnsapi.dll (native)' as a library in Wine, as that dll will block any execution on your system.
This issue tends to happen with PlayOnLinux virtual drive installations, but these are the best due to properly configuring wine-mono for the prefix.
RE: If you can't start the launcher
by yushir on Monday August 31st 2015, 13:54
And also winhttp.dll (native). Basically, don't install 'winhttp' or you won't be able to run it.
RE: If you can't start the launcher
by yushir on Monday August 31st 2015, 14:09
In some cases the 'prerequisites' installation won't be shown (for instance, if Wine is not configured to at least 'Windows XP'). Failure to install them will cause the game to crash.

- Set the Wine version to Windows XP.
- Execute the prerequisities from Hi-Rez Studios/HiRezGames/Binaries/Redist.
RE: If you can't start the launcher
by yushir on Friday September 11th 2015, 16:07
Lemme correct what I said... you need to change dnsapi.dll (native) to dnsapi.dll (native, builtin).
"Smite is connecting to the Authentication Service..." fix
by Petko on Monday August 3rd 2015, 20:11
My problem with getting "Smite is connecting to the Authentication Service..." was fixed by fixing these errors:
1.
err:winediag:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. Make sure that ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is in your path. Usually, you can find it in the winbind package of your distribution.

fix: just instal winbind (I installed it with Ubuntu Software Center)

2.
err:winediag:schan_imp_init Failed to load libgnutls, secure connections will not be available.

fix: sudo cp /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgnutls-deb0.so.28 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgnutls.so.26

My distro is Ubuntu Mate 15.04 and wine 1.7.44
Time change
by Eichhorn on Thursday July 30th 2015, 7:10
Apparently, with the new version of smite launcher it does not need ti change the time and date.

Also, I've had the problem of HirezUpdater being unable to start which was solved by adding my local network address (192.168.88.12) to the /etc/hosts files.

Everything works like a charm now.
RE: Time change
by Petko on Sunday August 2nd 2015, 14:12
Can i ask you how to edit etc/hosts?
I mean what to write in it.
I tried:
192.168.0.x localhost
192.168.0.x 127.0.0.1
and etc but it still shows me "Smite is connecting to the Authentication Service..."
RE: Time change
by Eichhorn on Monday August 3rd 2015, 17:16
Well, my local IP (which I simply checked with basic "ifconfig" command) is 192.168.88.54.

Therefore my hosts file looks like that:

127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost
192.168.88.54 celestia

where "celestia" is my host name. Not sure if that's required, though.
RE: Time change
by steve on Wednesday September 2nd 2015, 17:57
I'm still having the same problem with being unable to connect to authentication. I have my /etc/hosts setup just like yours.
Another way to launch the game
by VitorMM on Monday June 29th 2015, 7:59
You can also bypass the update system running "C:\Program Files\Hi-Rez Studios\HiPatchService.exe" with SMITE. It gave me a warning message, but after some seconds the Play button was clickable. I don't know if that works for updates too.
Installation tips
by DatGizmo on Tuesday June 9th 2015, 17:35
Hey,

for toes of you, who want to play without PlayOnLinux:

I installed following packages via winetricks:
dotnet35sp1 dotnet40 xact vcrun2008 vcrun2010 gdiplus directx9 d3dx10 d3dx11_42 d3dx11_43 d3dx9_43

Flash and Smite was installed as usual.

For the Smite installation I set the system date to a date mid 2012.
For running the game, I'm using a custom timezone file.

Creation of the timezone file: (The -26280 represents ~3 years in hours)
cd ~/smiteTime/
echo "Zone SmiteTime -26280:00 - Smite" >> SmiteTime.zone
zic SmiteTime.zone -d .

Before running the game export the TZ environment var to the new timezone file
export TZ=~/smiteZone/SmiteTime

The trick with the timezone file doesn't worked well for the rather long installation process (especial the download). But the game was running fine so far.

you are a real MVP, i was already did that, but you put in a simple way for the new users,

obs: i prefer not using playonlinux too, i dont like one thing that is not me and the command XD

RE: Installation tips
by DatGizmo on Wednesday June 17th 2015, 15:57
A note about updates:
The trick with the time zone does not work if smite needs updating.
Here you need hard set the system time.

If I find the time I will search for another way to solve this problem (hopefully HiRez will update their certificate some day)
RE: Installation tips
by Eichhorn on Thursday June 18th 2015, 11:01
Can you mention your distribution, please?

I've done

winetricks -q dotnet35sp1 dotnet40 xact vcrun2008 vcrun2010 gdiplus directx9 d3dx10 d3dx11_42 d3dx11_43 d3dx9_43

and

date 061818492015

Yet I still get "Failed to start the Hi-Rez Srudios Authenticate and Update Service"
RE: Installation tips
by Eichhorn on Friday June 19th 2015, 4:28
date 051712302012 of course.
RE: Installation tips
by DatGizmo on Sunday June 21st 2015, 12:44
I'm using gentoo, with wine version 1.7.44 (I should do a full winedb entry :))

My date command I used:
date -s "2012-06-18"

But shouldn't make any difference than the version you used.
RE: Installation tips
by Eichhorn on Monday June 22nd 2015, 8:22
Ok, now that's interesting, since I'm using gentoo too.

Please, provide your use flags and the way your 32bit emulation is managed.

In my case it's

USE="X alsa cups fontconfig gecko jpeg lcms ldap mono mp3 ncurses nls opengl perl png prelink realtime run-exes s3tc ssl staging threads truetype udisks vaapi xcomposite xml

and

ABI_X86="32 64 (-x32)"

by Eichhorn on Tuesday June 23rd 2015, 12:09
Thank you very much, but I'm still at a loss.

Even with everything simillar to your configuration and following the instruction line by line it does not work.

I've also copied the complete installation from my windows machine to test things out and I think that the problem might be behind the error I get during the "net start"

Basically,
wine net start ~/.wine/drive_c/Games/Hi-Rez\ Studios/HiPatchService.exe
returns

"Could not get handle to service."

I'm sure I'm missing something.
RE: Installation tips
by DatGizmo on Tuesday June 23rd 2015, 13:17
Copying the windows installation didn't work for my in any way.
And in the way Smite is programmed, it is a bad idea anyway, because it is distributed to many places in windows.

So I strongly advice, to get a full installation via the launcher, as annoying as it is :|

I just can say, if everything is installed successfully via winetricks, set your system date, and start the smite installer.

If tried shortcuts via copying, but all of them resulted in a failure.

If you still got problems PM me.
Steps to Install and Play
by Luke on Tuesday May 26th 2015, 17:12
You can get the game to install under Wine if you follow this procedure:

* Install Dotnet 3.5 SP1
* Install Dotnet 4.0
* Install Flashplayer (not sure which one of these solves the problem, but there's nothing bad on installing both)
* Install Flashplayer ActiveX (Current winetricks download is broken, you need to go to Adobe Website and download the latest version for Internet Explorer (Windows 7))
* Install DirectX 9 - full
* Install DirectX 11
* Install XACT
* Install VC2008
* Install VC2010
* Install GDI+

IMPORTANT! The patcher server has an invalid certificate. You will ALWAYS need to set your system date (updating, playing) between 2011 and 2013 until they fix it.

After setting your date, run the normal installer from Smite website. It should start the service without problems and start downloading the game.

PD: Also, if you don't set the correct date, the launcher will make sure your system freezes so that you notice .

IMPORTANT! If you want to copy a windows installation, make sure to run the installers listed on Hi-Rez Studios/HiRezGames/smite/installscript.vdf manually.

These should install all the necessary prerequisites.

To run the launcher, you have to execute the following commands: net start HiPatchService /Hi-Rez Studios/HiRezLauncherUi.exe game=300 product=17

Ticket to get the certificate issue solved, number: #150524-000184.

Set the video memory of your graphics device and the game should start
couldn't get it to download and stuff
by william on Friday December 12th 2014, 22:09
I have had problems with the windows version as well. From what I can tell there is actually a background process that runs in conjunction with the main program. If the background process isn't running and doesn't give the okay signal than the main program will start up properly. It was built in as a security feature to make sure people don't hack the game by altering ram. The background process scans your system and monitors for programs that are considered to be cheater tools. I know this because I couldn't get my game to work when I was running cheat engine and the second I turned it off it started working. I forget the full name of it but it is clearly labelled as hirez and it is marked as a start-up process in the system configuration. I believe it runs dependently with explorer. Once the game is initialized how-ever you can kill the explorer task and it continues to run without flaw.

If you can make both the nanny program and the main program happy then it should run smoothly.
