What was not tested
The game launches and is functional with nouveau as well, but the gameplay visuals fail to load, rendering it unplayable. Only menus and some HUD elements are usable. Sound works with both ALSA and PulseAudio.
There seems to be a hard requirement on a loopback network interface being active, without which the game will crash on startup. Conventional OS installers usually take care of this automatically, but more manual ones (such as "raw" debootstrap) do not.
Stuttering occurs whenever the game is under pressure, so far observed whenever assets are being loaded. Enabling threaded optimizations appears to lessen the duration and severity of the stutters, but does not remove them completely. It also does not seem to impact the framerate.
