What works

The installer installs stuff as expected without issues (both the pre-release one with key and the release one without key works), the game launch and some maps are fully playable, like the "ge_complex" one.

What does not

Some maps crash the game, like the "ge_dam" one or the "ge_aztec" one (new maps), some revamped maps seem to trigger the crash too.

Additional Comments

GES: 5.0 is only able to load all maps on wine while running GalliumNine, it crashes on all other configurations, it means it crashes on official Wine releases. Distro tested: - Ubuntu 16.04 "Xenial" LTS amd64 - Ubuntu 16.10 "Yakkety" amd64 Wine tested (failure): - Wine 1.7.42 + WineD3D - Wine 1.7.42 “staging” + WineD3D + CSMT - Wine 1.9.16 + WineD3D - Wine 1.9.16 “staging” + WineD3D + CSMT - Wine 1.9.17 + WineD3D - Wine 1.9.17 “staging” + WineD3D - Wine 1.9.17 “staging” + WineD3D + CSMT - Wine 1.9.18 + WineD3D - Wine 1.9.18 “staging” + WineD3D - Wine 1.9.18 “staging” + WineD3D + CSMT - Wine 2.0-rc1 + WineD3D Wine tested (success): - Wine 1.9.17 + GalliumNine - Wine 1.9.18 + GalliumNine - Wine 2.0 + GalliumNine Drivers tested (failure): - Intel Mesa i915 + WineD3D - Nvidia Proprietary nvidia + WineD3D - AMD Mesa radeonsi + WineD3D - AMD Mesa amdgpu + WineD3D - AMD Proprietary amdgpu-pro + WineD3D Drivers tested (success): - AMD Mesa radeonsi + GalliumNine - AMD Mesa amdgpu + GalliumNine Drivers not tested: - Nvidia Mesa nouveau + WineD3D (expected to crash) - Nvidia Mesa nouveau + GalliumNine (expected to work well) Kernel tested: - Linux 4.4 - Linux 4.6 - Linux 4.7 - Linux 4.9 CPU tested: - AMD FX-9590 - Intel Core i7-4810MQ GPU tested: - AMD Radeon R9 390X (GRENADA) - Intel 4th Gen Core (Haswell) Integrated Graphic Mobile - Nvidia Quadro K1100M (GK107GLM) Additional thing to know: tweaking source engine's dxlevel affect the rendering (as expected) but does not prevent the game to crash. All the setups that crashes GE:S 5.0 are able to run GE:S 4.2.4 nicely, so what is triggering the crash is something added is GE:S 5.0. The crash is not triggered while running GalliumNine, and is always triggered while running WineD3D, do it's related to that WineD3D implementation. While running the amdgpu-pro driver, some other bug occurs on steam-related stuff that can crash the game too (running on amdgpu-pro is the worst setup tested so far), the amdgpu-pro setup both trigger D3D9-related crash plus some others crashes the other setups do not trigger.

HowTo / Notes

Better performance
Modify the launch parameters in Steam for GE:S to add "-dxlevel 80" for a more stable framerate.
