What works

Movies, sound, gameplay, server selection, character creation, leveling, etc.

I have a level 17 Jedi Knight and have not encountered a single wine-specific problem so far.

Performance is great with CSMT. I have a solid 60fps on 1600x1200 while leveling on max settings (except for AA and anisotropic).

What does not

16:9 aspect ratio rendering (this is a problem with the game itself and also appears on Windows).

Workaround : I switch my desktop to 1600x1200 *before* launching the game (the game itself being configured to render in 1600x1200 too).

That way I get correct aspect ratio though with black borders on my 1080p screen.

The game is very sensitive to screen change so do it before launching the game. For example, changing resolution, switching virtual desktops will almost always cause a black screen ingame or even outright crashing.

What was not tested

Any group content.

Only level 17 so far.

Additional Comments

Tested on a i7 2700k @ 4.2Ghz / GTX 670 / 24GB DDR3 1866 / HDD GPU usage stays below 50% at 1600x1200 max settings (except aa/anisotropic) CPU usage is around 40% with CSMT. Problems cheat sheet (detailed below) : - no download -> switch download method to ssn - white screen during movies / no 3d rendering -> winetricks d3dx9 - game doesn't start : wine swtor_fix.exe in same prefix *after* launcher (launcher didn't start if I ran swtor_fix before) but *before* running the game - game still doesn't start : wait. the game is *SLOW* to launch (like 1-2 mins) but after that it's fine I used the installer from the website in a 32 bits prefix. The installer runs fine with wine but you need to switch the download method from bitraider (which seems to cause problems on windows too) to ssn in your installation directory/launcher.settings : "PatchingMode": "{ \"swtor\": \"BR\" }" -> "PatchingMode": "{ \"swtor\": \"SSN\" }" After that the download and installation work fine (40GB+ for non english version!) In order to actually run the game you need swtor_fix from You also need the following winetricks : msvcp90=native d3dx9 vcrun2008 msls31 winhttp You can also enable CSMT if you have wine-staging to get more performance. Now you can start the game this way : export WINEARCH=win32 export WINEPREFIX=/your/prefix export WINEDEBUG=-all,+fps # if you need a workaround for the aspect ratio problem xrandr -s "4/3 resolution" (1600x1200, 1152x864, 1024x768, etc.) wine "InstallationPath\launcher.exe" & sleep 5s; wine /home/gilles/Wine/ThirdParty/swtor_fix.exe wait; # restore desktop resolution xrandr -s "your usual desktop resolution"

Resolving Screen Stretching
by erika jonell on Friday November 18th 2016, 8:17
While there is no current way to stop SWTOR from incorrectly getting your display ratio (i.e., setting 4x3 on a 16x9 monitor), you can use wine to force it to use the proper ratio by utilizing the emulated virtual desktop in winecfg under the graphics tab.

I personally use 1600x900 and have swtor run in windowed (fullscreen) and it properly uses the correct screen ratio (16x9) for my desktop. FYI - this doesn't appear to limit fullscreen to 1600x900 in my case, but forces the correct 16x9 ratio as i get fullscreen in the proper ratio on my 1920x1080 display.

Happy Gaming! :D

You have replied to some of my comments regarding SWTOR on Mint Linux using various versions of Wine.
I'm preparing to switch to OpenSUSE Tumbleweed to see if I can replicate a "Platinum" experience in SWTOR.

Do you run swtor_fix.exe before the launcher, or are you using a patched version of Wine?
Are you using the script recommended for swtor_fix.exe or running everything manually using terminal commands?
What did you install using winetricks? d3dx9 and vcrun2008 only or more?
How much of a wait do you have between clicking "Play" and seeing the splash screen, and then the character selection screen?
