What works

The config menu and various user interface screens.

What does not

The main playing screen itself that shows your tower is black. Sound plays, menu items work, the control bar thing along the bottom of the screen works, the controls appear, putting items down appears to work in that it makes sounds and responds, popups appear. But the main play screen itself that shows your tower is black, and nothing I have tried makes it appear.

What was not tested

General game play because the main screen is black, and once you install and run the game, you can't do anything.

Hardware tested

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Additional Comments

I tried this in a clean wine previx. I tried installing corefonts, d3dx9_42, vcrun2008, xact, vcrun2015. I tried a 32 bit prefix, I tried a 64 bit prefix, I tried full screen, I tried it in a window, I tried it with wine set to use a virtual desktop. No matter what I do, with the 3.8 version of wine the main play screen is black. A quick romp through google showed that this is a known problem with the Windows version and that the devs themselves have admitted that it happens from time to time. I spent hours with this and could not find any way to get it to work.
