What works

The game: main menus, font rendering, sprites, voice overs and movies all work at any option available in-game or from the launcher.

What does not

The game does not provide any preliminary setup like most Steam applications do. Installing at least DirectX 9 separately is necessary. I had trouble using winetricks for this purpose, but it should be possible (I ended up using another Steam app's redists).

The game crashes very often, around once every 2 or 3 minutes. When this happens, the interface (sprites and pause menu) gets corrupted. It is still possible to progress into the story by saving regularly.

No manual DLL override necessary (as long as dxd9_43 is installed). Installing the DLLs listed in the current 1.20 English Edition release page (ffdshow, quartz, devenum) does not improve the stability; it also makes the sound choppy (both BGM and voice overs). The game is currently unplayable due to the amount of crashes. Fast-forwarding is guaranteed to trigger one. The crash log seems to indicate that something went wrong in the graphics system. In my own experience, that kind of problem can be worked around by trying different sets of libraries or overrides; sadly, nothing worked so far. Without the d3dx9_43 override, wine also reports several malloc failures before the crash. Tested on MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014).
