HowTo / Notes

Installation Guide

Note: I am using PlayOnLinux as my Wine prefix manager. It allows, besides having multiple wine versions and wine prefixes, quickly changing some useful options, provides a shell with prefix and binary variables already set, and many other cool features, which I believe should be main direction of this app development. If you are new to Wine, or too lazy to write WINEPREFIX=... every time, try this app.

Installation of Battlerite is as simple as it can be.

1. Install Steam. Follow instructions on WineHQ Steam page. Most important thing: use --no-isolate flag, because otherwise chat might broke.

2. Install dx9 (and dx11 optionally) libraries trough winetricks.

3. Install Battlerite trough steam.

4. Enjoy! If you have pink textures, and, well, unplayable game, enable GLSL in any way you know. Try both dx9 and dx11 to see which one works for your configuration - for me, most models are invisible in dx11 mode.

About DX9 and DX11

With Wine version 2.16-staging, both DirectX 9 and 11 work. However, in DX11 mode, with Intel Graphicsmost of character models aren't visible, so I recommend sticking with DX9 if you have Intel, until solution is found. I haven't noticed performance differences between DX9 and DX11, though. Don't forget to install proper libraries with winetricks.

About GLSL

I didn't experienced performance issues with GLSL enabled, and having it disabled caused most of textures to appear in pink, both in DX9 and DX11 modes, making game unplayable. However, I am only able to test this in Intel graphics, and other reports with Nvidia cards show that problem doesn't appear here. Although it seems that leaving GLSL enabled is better, because most games will require it, as written here.

About 64-bit prefix

Battlerite works awesome in 64-bite settings, giving me somewhat better performance.

Steam was unusable in 64-bit prefix, until I installed it trough winetricks with --no-isolate flag (check Steam page on WineHQ).

If you don't have any troubles with steam on 64-bit prefix, go for it, it's much better, even if you have to kill it in order to close it, but it's as simple as 'killall Battlerite.exe'.

There was reports that chat isn't working in 64-bit prefix, and/or in DX11 mode, and I reproduced this issue once, but not anymore - as I'm saying it again and again, install Steam trough winetricks with proper --no-isolate flag.
