To create a new playlist right click on the Playlists entry in the Media Tree on the left. Input the name of a new (empty) playlist. You can then load any existing m3u playlist into MediaMonkey and select the option List -> Save Playlist at the bottom of the Now Playing pane and save it to the new empty playlist that was created.
Remember that the pathnames may be different between machines so you might need to edit the m3u file to correct the pathnames.
Due to slow disk writing it may take a long time to save a playlist but it will save.
On my installation playlists work. I can also manually copy over skin files from other machines into
What does not
Directory scanning does not seem to be working well, possibly because of very slow read access.
I did not try to sync with a portable media device so no idea if it works.
What was not tested
I would rate MediaMonkey as almost Gold. Its definitely usable for me and very stable. To install on Ubuntu: Step 1. Set up the official WineHQ Ubuntu PPA using instructions here: https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu 2. Install winehq-devel and all other needed dependencies: sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386; sudo add-apt-repository ppa:wine/wine-builds; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install --install-recommends winehq-devel mono-complete winbind (note that winbind is installed above, a requirement for MediaMonkey) Get the lastest winetricks from their github site. Do not install winetricks through the Ubuntu package manager as that version is much older. wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Winetricks/winetricks/master/src/winetricks; chmod +x winetricks; mv winetricks ~/bin 3. Create a 32-bit prefix to be used by by MediaMonkey: WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.MediaMonkey ~/bin/winetricks In winetricks select Install an application and click OK. However immediately click Cancel. In the next page that appears select Install a Windows DLL or Component. In the list of available components select and install the following: vb6run vcrun6 vcrun6sp6 wsh56vb wmp10 Once all the components are installed and Winetricks returns to the previous screen, select Install a font and select and install corefonts 4. Install MediaMonkey: WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.MediaMonkey wine MediaMonkey_188.8.131.523.exe Unselect the option to start MediaMonkey when installation finishes. 5. Install the MAD plugin Without this plugin MediaMonkey won’t play mp3 files. Download the plugin from the MAD plugin website and install it: WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.MediaMonkey wine MAD\ plug-in\ 0.14.2b.exe It will ask for the path to install the plugin. Rather than the default path C:/Program Files/Winamp instead install it to C:/Program Files/MediaMonkey. Make sure you consult MediaMonkey’s website which has a page Linux, Wine & MediaMonkey.
