The game is fully playable all the way to the end of the main quest so long as graphics are at the lowest settings in windowed mode at 800x500 resolution. If someone is fine with that, then the game is fully functional. Crafting works. Alchemy works. Enchanting works. Furniture animations work including chopping wood. Invisibility works. All the spells work. Marriage works. Becoming thane works.
Expect a few crashes along the way, especially if magic is being used. SAVE OFTEN!
Achievements works as well as mods.
In order to get the game to run you need:
Wine 2.8 staging set to windows 2003 64bit or sound will be choppy
NB: Controls are sluggish. It is best to launch the game outside of steam as steam makes it worse.
ALSO: Any meshes that can change shape because of animation scrips will exhibit white or black flickering. So far I can't fine a way to get rid of that. It is a bit of an eye sore but besides looking ugly it doesn't interfere with game play. Certain mods remove animations from trees and the like and that might help a bit.
What does not
Graphics on high settings
There seems to be an issue with light sources. They aren't bright enough. Everything but the sun is very dark.
God rays (they work but make the game unplayable)
The new water shader is fine from a distance but looks really ugly when swimming.
It actually is possible to get the game to run on high resolution so long as xaudio and xact are not installed but then the NPCs will have no voices and it will be a chore with heavy use of the console to get the game to work.
Talking to Brynjolf in Riften will crash the game. In fact, talking to any member of the thieves guild will crash the game every time. When he approaches you to force you into conversation, open the console, click on him and write [disable]. That will remove him from the game and he is gone. Then just talk to the lizard lady in the bar and she'll tell you where to go.
What was not tested
I obviously didn't go through and do every quest so I don't know if certain things in certain questlines will have issues. The main quest works as well as the College of Winterhold.
I did not test, nor do I plan to test, becoming a vampire or a werewolf.
