What works

This old MS-DOS game, that once requires a old Windows 95 environment to install, and a 3dfx card, can now be installed on modern version of Windows and on Linux using Wine without much effort, since the games are bundled with own Installer Package, which is very easy to set up. Just accept the agreements, and install without further complications.

At the end of installation process, the installer gives a variable error, but concludes without issues, after resume the warning pop-up.

Once installed, just export the "Launch Redguard.lnk" or type "wine /start/ unix/ Launch\ Redguard.lnk" to start the game.

It will start the bundled DosBox with a custom configuration file, and the game itself will start in 3dfx mode (The 3dfx logo will appear inside the DosBox screen).

By default, the game starts in full-screen mode.

Once loaded, the game appears to be fluid (using a Nvidia GTX 970, with a i7-4790!), and all controls responds without lagging input.

What does not

The installer gives some runtime errors once finishes the game file assets copy, but can resume without problems, and then just finishes the installation.

In some Desktop Environments, or native screens higher than 720p or 1080p, (the Redguard game itself will not work in such higher configurations), without tweaking the custom DosBox.conf file, may not render correctly, or the game screen may be cropped.

If it happens, the first try is to enable the "Virtual Desktop" mode on Winecfg, before you try to edit the DosBox.conf file.

(If you use a 1080p or a 4K monitor, and if you want a real fullscreen during gameplay, you need to set an adequate screen upscaling  on DosBox.conf. The DOS game itself would not generate natively a screen higher than 1280*1024.)
