What works

The game works with sound (I managed to start the game, create the character and begin the first level), after installing these components / native overrides:

Intro videos however fail out of the box, because they use vc1 video codec which is not properly supported. The workaround is to replace videos with ones which use wmv2 video codec instead of vc1.

There are two ways to do it. Either straight re-encode the videos yourself, or use ones supplied with Wine wrapped Linux release of the game, which GOG now provides. There developers already re-encoded videos for you.

To re-encode them yourself, you can do this:

  • From the current directory (whatever it is), create such directories: original, converted.
  • Place all original video files from [game-dir]/Video/*.wmv in original
  • To convert you'd need ffmpeg installed. Run this from the original directory you created above:

for src in *.wmv; do ffmpeg -i $src -q:a 0 -q:v 0 -vcodec wmv2 -acodec wmav2 ../converted/$src; done
  • You should get resulted files in converted directory.
  • Replace files in [game-dir]/Video with the resulted converted files.

What does not

Nothing so far.

Additional Comments

Giving the gold rating since the game works well after several tweaks and overrides.
