Selected Test Results

What works

  • Ripping tracks in secure, paranoid, fast and burst modes, with and without testing.
  • Running external compressors (FLAC tested).
  • Submitting AccurateRip results.
  • Detecting gaps.
  • Creating CUE sheets with CD-TEXT and UPC/ISRC.
  • Creating log files.
  • Fetching external metadata via the built-in metadata provider.
  • Fetching external metadata via the CUEtools plugin.
  • Adding CUEtools and AcoustID information to the log file.
  • Configuring plugins via the configuration dialog.

What does not

  • Running the application without installing native .NET

Workarounds

The following installation will give you a working EAC installation, given you are running Wine 4.17 or higher. In this version the sxs patches have been applied. Follow the instructions at https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu for winehq-devel. Install winetricks, https://wiki.winehq.org/Winetr...

My impression is that the follow method gives reproducible results.

WINEPREFIX=~/wineac WINEARCH=win32 winetricks -q dotnet20 vcrun2008

WINEPREFIX=~/wineac WINEARCH=win32 wine ~/Downloads/eac-1.3.exe

Run the installation, but don't run EAC after you are done.

WINEPREFIX=~/wineac WINEARCH=win32 winecfg

In winecfg go to libraries, add an override with the name mscorwks. Click on it edit and modify it to the option Windows. It will now show as mscorwks (native).

You are now ready to lauch!

WINEPREFIX=~/wineac WINEARCH=win32 wine ~/wineac/drive_c/Program\ Files/Exact\ Audio\ Copy/EAC.exe

The best way to check if the above works: check in de EAC options, if any plugins are present. If so: do a metadata search on a common Audio-CD. If the metadata search using CUETools does not return any results you are missing a dll override.

What was not tested

  • Range ripping.
  • Functionality from the "Tools" menu concerning processing WAV files (Compare, Compress, Remove Gaps, etc).
  • Burning CDs from non-compliant CUE sheets.
  • Erasing CD-RW discs.
  • Write offset testing.
  • Write features testing.

I can now confirm, having just ripped 15 new CDs, that Stefan de Konnick's install procedure above works beautifully with EAC 1.5 under Wine 5.0 or 5.3. EAC ran flawlessly. I don't know if there should be metadata engines other than FreeDB -- I found none.

I still want to evaluate 1.5 myself as well in a big rig. After setting up 1.3, my main issue was when running EAC concurrently that some of the applications became unclickable, like the entire application was unable to focus. Given the release notes of 1.4 and 1.5 MusicBrainz should be available as metadata engine. Not having plugins available was some kind of dotnet issues. Does the log file have any cuetools and accuraterip information, that typically would show plugins are functioning.

EAC 1.5 now runs fine -- the install still reports that it can't find libpng12.so.0
this may no longer work
by Howard on Saturday February 29th 2020, 22:08
This seemed to work perfectly -- until, just before the install was complete -- LinuxMint 19.3 updated to Wine 5.0.
the install now fails because it can't find libpng12.so.0
This is a known problem in Ubuntu after 18.04 and Mint 19.*.
A solution is proposed here : www.linuxuprising.com/2018/05/fix-libpng12-0-missing-in-ubuntu-1804.html
but I've not gotten that to work.

First, you will need to open the 'command prompt.' Press your windows button, or access the windows start menu 192-168-1-1ip.biz, then type 'cmd' into the search bar, this will get you to the 'command prompt' app.
