Additional Comments

dotnet20 installed via winetricks.

Make sure you configure the drives properly, else EAC won't be able to see them. My configuration is :

  • Drive D: set to /mnt/dvd0, E: set to /mnt/dvd1 in winecfg.
  • /mnt/dvd0 and /mnt/dvd1 are present in /etc/fstab and point to /dev/sr0 and sr1, respectively. They don't need to be mounted while running EAC, and it's not possible to mount Audio CDs anyway.
  • The user running Wine must have read/write access to the drive's raw block device. On Debian, it's enough to add the user to the cdrom group.

I can now confirm, having just ripped 15 new CDs, that Stefan de Konnick's install procedure above works beautifully with EAC 1.5 under Wine 5.0 or 5.3. EAC ran flawlessly. I don't know if there should be metadata engines other than FreeDB -- I found none.

I still want to evaluate 1.5 myself as well in a big rig. After setting up 1.3, my main issue was when running EAC concurrently that some of the applications became unclickable, like the entire application was unable to focus. Given the release notes of 1.4 and 1.5 MusicBrainz should be available as metadata engine. Not having plugins available was some kind of dotnet issues. Does the log file have any cuetools and accuraterip information, that typically would show plugins are functioning.

EAC 1.5 now runs fine -- the install still reports that it can't find libpng12.so.0
this may no longer work
by Howard on Saturday February 29th 2020, 22:08
This seemed to work perfectly -- until, just before the install was complete -- LinuxMint 19.3 updated to Wine 5.0.
the install now fails because it can't find libpng12.so.0
This is a known problem in Ubuntu after 18.04 and Mint 19.*.
A solution is proposed here : www.linuxuprising.com/2018/05/fix-libpng12-0-missing-in-ubuntu-1804.html
but I've not gotten that to work.

First, you will need to open the 'command prompt.' Press your windows button, or access the windows start menu 192-168-1-1ip.biz, then type 'cmd' into the search bar, this will get you to the 'command prompt' app.
