Latest GOG release (1.31 or GOTY)
Everything. No more graphical glitches like unrendered texures on cave entrances in wine-staging 2.xx
What does not
Some very minor graphical glitches, like thin light outline on leafs during rain.
Performance problem on Nvidia cards with proprietary driver. Graphics card utilisation is mostly about 50-60%, highest usage I have seen was 80%. FPS is mostly in range 20 to 27 on high/ultra 1080p settings.
Performance is heavy CPU limited with Nvidia cards. On AMD cards as I seen on forums game runs significantly faster.
Compiling wine with wined3d-buffer_create is mandatory for any playable performance (without it You will have 5 FPS). Patch works well with wine-3.xx.
For further optimization try run game with:
nice -20 - for best cpu priority (for me + ~3 FPS).
For Ryzen with slow RAM try to run game on single CCX with sufficient taskset (like taskset -c 0-7) command.
What was not tested
Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB
Ryzen 1700X@3.8 with fast RAM

Currently with wined3d, The Witcher 3 is still affected by CPU-GPU buffer maps synchronization issue (bug #44315). It severely degrades performance.
Using dxvk instead of wined3d is the best course of action, since it performs very well, and also provides perfect rendering, as long as your Vulkan driver supports VK_EXT_transform_feedback extension.
