I've noticed some people reporting the game running with sound, but just a black screen. Please ensure you have compiz or similar desktop effects disabled before running. The command to enter in the console (if you are running Gnome, the standard Ubuntu window manager) is: metacity --replace After the game has exited, you can re-enable compiz with compiz --replace
