What works

Displays request window for product key and then displays product components (which was Professional i.e. includes Access) requested.

What does not

Crashes with usual 'Send / Don't Send to Microsoft window'. Some of terminal is:

err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"CADpc" returned 1603
err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"ExecuteAction" returned 1603

I'n not able to report the bug in Bugzilla because I don't know the component and I couldn't figure out how to 'login' to its IRC.

HowTo / Notes

Warning

Office 2002/XP does not install due to bug 5163. This bug is unlikely to ever be fixed.

The platinum test reports above are from users who had slipstreamed, volume licensed installers that did not ask for a registration key, and hence were not affected by bug 5163. Unless you have such a copy, you will not be able to install Office XP in Wine.

For the determined, there is a hack/patch attached to bug 5163. It will not apply to current Wine; you will have to get the source for 1.0.1, patch it, and pray that it compiles on a modern system (it might not). This hack is unsupported; use at your own risk.

Guidelines for Submitting Test Reports
  1. Specify exactly which edition of Office 2002/XP you tested (Standard, Pro, etc.) This is crucial--bugs that affect one edition may not affect others.
  2. Specify exactly what type of install you tested (Typical, Custom, Minimal, etc.)
  3. Limit your report to the installer only. Reports on the performance of individual apps should be filed under their respective AppDB entries. Problems with running any of the apps should only be mentioned if it is clear that it is due to a problem with the installer.
  4. If you used any overrides during the install, please list them and explain exactly what problem each override was needed to solve.
