Additional Comments

Install mdac28, jet40 and .NET Framework 4.6: $ winetricks mdac28 jet40 dotnet46 If dotnet46 fails (should install all the previous versions as its dependencies), download and execute the file manually with /q option (GUI is known to crash): Install .NET Framework 4.6.1 update: According to the previous test, you should remove or rename lvinstruments directory. I did not do that and Multisim works just fine. $ cd "$WINEPREFIX/drive_c/Program Files/National Instruments/Circuit Design Suite 14.1" $ mv lvinstruments lvinstruments.bak If you experience black rectangles appearing instead of windows, that's because of animations. Set "Options > Customize interface > Menu > Menu animations" to None and disable menu shadows.

Menu bar disappears after running several times
by Hongzhi Deng on Saturday March 23rd 2019, 12:41
The only workaround I tried is to delete the original config file, which is in users/YOUR_USER_NAME/application Data/, but all your options and settings will be gone and trying backup didnt work for me, using the backup config file after the software generates the new one causes the menu bar to disappear again.
License Problems
by Luuk van Baal on Tuesday November 27th 2018, 8:55
If anyone knows a way to get Multisim to activate, do let me know.
I've been trying the past few days but can't get past the login prompt in the license manager.

I had luck with 3rd party cracked (warez) activators. Of course, I don't encourage anyone to steal software, but if you already do have a license, for home usage it might be fine.

Thanks for the tip, it worked hehe.

Still have very poor performance unfortunately though, have you experienced/been able to improve anything in this regard?

Fixed the sluggish performance by adjusting `TMAX` simulation values to something more lenient than the default.

Did you encounter any issues activating?
After entering my license code I am prompted to login am unable to do so, not sure why because when I try to login all I see is corrupted visuals.
Actually works
by Erik Bročko on Monday August 6th 2018, 10:14
Multisim itself (already installed) works in (the latest) Wine 3.13, it's only the installer that crashes with access violation in msi.dll.

After some testing, it seems that Wine 3.6 is the most recent version that works with the installer.

I think this should have its own bug report. Maybe this is related?

I had to switch 3.0 wine (no staging) and works perfectly.

For me, everything works the same on Ubuntu MATE 18.04 with wine-staging 3.8. Fullscreen kinda broken, simulation works fine.
Installer Crash
by Luuk van Baal on Sunday May 20th 2018, 9:28
Does this still work for anyone?
My NI installer crashes (Exception code: C0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION))

I am also trying to get this to work on Ubuntu 16.04 using WINE 3.0 and get as far as wine extracting the files, but then it wants me to update the windows service updater and I am currently trying to work around that.
