What works

  • start from Battle.net application
  • remastered/cartooned graphics, original graphics and switch between them (F5 toggle), pillarbox graphics and other video toggles
  • music and all sounds
  • singleplayer including cinematics
  • multiplayer over Battle.net ladder
  • watching replays
  • showing fps (Ctrl-Alt-f toggle)

What does not

  • enabled Mouse Sensitivity setting has no effect when wine is run in windowed desktop mode (did not test in wine fullscreen mode)
  • enabled Use Mouse Scaling setting or disabled Hardware Cursor cause significant (unplayable) mouse pointer movement delay

Workarounds

  • keep Hardware Cursor setting enabled and Use Mouse Scaling disabled

What was not tested

  • LAN multiplayer
  • Real-Time Lightning video toogle

Installing with the Blizzard Downloader

You will need mshtml.dll and wininet.dll from internet explorer 6SP1

I got mine using the latest version of ies4linux

Copy them to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32

Use the libraries tab in winecfg to set them both to native

Downloading and installing should now work
