What works

  • start from Battle.net application
  • remastered/cartooned graphics, original graphics and switch between them (F5 toggle), pillarbox graphics
  • music and all sounds
  • singleplayer, including cinematics
  • watching replays (with seeking)
  • multiplayer over Battle.net: ladder, create, join, messaging, etc
  • showing FPS (Ctrl-Alt-f toggle) and TR (Ctrl-Alt-t toggle)

What does not

Maybe "Mouse Sensitivity" setting still affects performance (previous versions of wine struggled with it), but it wasn't tested properly on wine-7.8-staging.

Workarounds

Keep "Hardware Cursor" setting enabled and "Use Mouse Scaling" disabled in order to be sure that the game software doesn't add latency to the cursor movement in any way.

What was not tested

  • "Mouse Sensitivity" setting in conjunction with "Use Mouse Scaling"
  • "Real-Time Lightning" video toggle
  • LAN multiplayer

Installing with the Blizzard Downloader

You will need mshtml.dll and wininet.dll from internet explorer 6SP1

I got mine using the latest version of ies4linux

Copy them to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32

Use the libraries tab in winecfg to set them both to native

Downloading and installing should now work
