High-quality graphics are selectable in the 64-bit version
by David Oftedal on Saturday March 3rd 2018, 12:46
Using the 64-bit version of Wine, version 3.3 or later, it's possible to set the graphics quality to High, and get both multiresolution textures and higher texture quality.

The launch command installed by the installer seems to still point to the 32-bit executable. If that is the case, one should launch the 64-bit executable directly.
env WINEPREFIX="~/.wine" wine64 C:\\windows\\command\\start.exe /Unix ~/.wine/dosdevices/c\:/Program\ Files/The\ Witness/witness64_d3d11.exe

If the directory "~/.wine" is being used for a 32-bit installation of Wine, the game should be installed in a new directory intended for 64-bit wine, and the command should refer to directory instead of "~/.wine".
Wine 3.3 and up recommended
by David Oftedal on Saturday March 3rd 2018, 7:03
The Witness makes extensive use of multisampled textures, including for puzzles in one or more areas, so in order to clear the game fully with all puzzles completed, one should use Wine 3.3 or higher and enable multisampling.
