Additional Comments

Game only runs with staging since they dropped dx9 support. Using a clean 32/64 bit prefix, no overwrites / winetricks or registry key changes needed. If you get stuck on the loading screen it sometimes help to delete the cache "../cryptic/Neverwinter/Live/cache/" there are 3 ".hogg" files, it should take about 5 - 20 minutes to regenerate them. Specially after big updates it can happen to take a bit longer, you should move the game to a different partition / HDD and move it back this speeds things up even in game loading. I think the game files are getting fragmented and there is some IO lag in wine. For me it never took longer than 30 minutes. Some graphics are missing and to correct my comment, it is playable. Tested on my Desktop Gentoo 64 bit GeForce GTX 560 Ti and two laptops both with Manjaro (Arch based) G9600M GT (DX10) runs slow but no problems and the other new laptop with some intel/nvidia dedicated card

How to update DirectX config?
by Joe Terwilliger on Sunday May 28th 2017, 0:36
I have had this game installed and working in prior than version 80 using 1.7.45 staging Wine release. I updated to 32-bit staging 2.8 release just tonight and edited the wine config to report I am using Vista OS after I got the warning. Now the Perfect World Neverwinter launcher is telling me I have an unsupported DirectX Version and wants me to update. I've double checked I have DX10 and DX11 DLLs installed using Winetricks and that I the libraries are attempting to load Native DX11 DLLs first.

What else do I need to do? Grab the DX11 installation package from M$? (I hope not!) or is there some other config or patch I need to set for the launcher to pass the DirectX library check?

Try a clean 64 bit prefix, no overwrites / winetricks needed

With the patch from
the game starts fine but lots of graphics are missing and its almost not playable

How are you able to get the game to load? No matter how I've configured or tried to launch, it's consistently freezing at the Neverwinter loading screen during shader loads. Waited 1-2hrs in some cases for progress without success.

Also, are you able to correct graphics by disabling shader features in in-game GFX settings?

As i remember you use POL, staging 2.8 is released check if they added it already.

Attempted with staging, but without luck. Wasn't a clean setup though (had some lib overrides in place via winetricks). Will try again on a clean 64bit staging tonight.

Just to clarify, will I need to update the Max GL reg key in order to get this to run? Had found in the past needing to do this in order for it to recognize dx11 compatibility.

MaxVersionGL registry key is not needed and windows version Vista and greater.
If you get stuck on the loading screen it sometimes help to delete the cache ".wine/drive_c/Program Files/cryptic/Neverwinter/Live/cache/" there are 3 ".hogg" files it should not take longer than 20 minutes to regenerate them.

I think MaxVersionGL might be dependent on your system config or current drivers. Using nvidia-375 on ubuntu, if I don't add the key, I get thrown the errror on start about my card not supporting DX10/11 (which it does).

You should file a bug, looks like your card is not recognised correctly in wine and its not related to Nerverwinter.
Maybe check with some benchmark like 3DMark06 to see what card it detects.
I tested on two laptops with Manjaro (Arch based) and a G9600M GT (DX10) runs slow but no problems and the other new laptop with some intel/nvidia card can't remember which one ;-)

I just looked up the vendor and device ID and added the reg keys for them in the HKCU > Wine > Direct3D key. Removed the MaxVersionGL key(which is in that same location btw, basically raising a cap on the GL version loaded based on my GPU, I had it set to 40001) and now I don't get the DirectX warning anymore. I'm suspecting a local confit issue at this point rather than a wine bug, given the popularity of this card, so I'm going to look into that before I file a report (Wine is supposed to read from some mesa GLX environment variables to determine the device and vendor ID of my card at runtime rather than rely on registry keys, so I'm thinking maybe my system is misconfigured somewhere, and I'm lacking those variables).

And even better news, while writing this I got past the loading screen and am now in the menu! Will play a bit (in 2.9 staging) and report on performance!

So, for all those having issues, having to override the GL version loaded is most definitely a red flag!

Do you have the missing texture issue others are reporting? I've got a playable game (in fact, running even better on 2.9 than it did the last time it worked, on I believe 1.7.48), but missing quite a few textures (character/clothing, vanishing items on the ground, etc).

Go and check latest test result and known bugs ;-) i try to keep it up to date.

By the way, can you post exactly what you changed in the registry so i can add it to the comments. I never had to use it.
