update to previous post
by zpangwin on Tuesday April 6th 2021, 20:23
For anyone following my previous instructions and running into the error:

wine: could not open working directory L"unix\\media\\f\\wine\\games\\gog-risen-2\\", starting in the Windows directory.
Application could not be started, or no application associated with the specified file.
ShellExecuteEx failed: File not found.

This is likely related to bug 50867, introduced under wine staging 6.5:

The quick fix is to just copy / link wine's start.exe into C:/Windows so that it is found using the new PATH rules introduced in wine 6.5. According to the ticket comments, it also sounds like this will be resolved in a future patch.

cd /drive_c/windows
# if file does not exist under C:/Windows, then hard-link
# the copy from C:/Windows/command
test ! -f "start.exe" && ln command/start.exe start.exe

You can see my updated instructions including a workaround for the above, how to integrate gamemoderun into the launch command to prevent the screensaver from activating while playing, several options for installing the Risen 2 Unofficial Patch, and some very detailed game data sheets covering in-game stats/locations by checking out my git repo on github/gitlab:
GOG version working great on fedora 33 cinnamon
by zpangwin on Friday March 5th 2021, 1:01
This is for the **GOG** version only. Steam version doesn't start (likely either due to 64-bit winprefix proton uses or drm)

Distro: Fedora 33 Cinnamon spin
GPU: GeForce GTX 970 driver: nvidia v: 460.32.03
Kernel: 5.10.19
System Wine: wine-6.3 (Staging) - installed via winehq repo
Winetricks: 20210206-next - installed via github repo

statuss: Game launches. Logo/splash screen videos give black screen with audio but actual story intro video works correctly (audio + video). Xbox 360 controller worked fine after enabling via game menu.

install steps:
# /gaming = mountpoint for a HDD
cd /gaming/wine;
# create prefix
env WINEPREFIX="$PFXD" WINEARCH=win32 wine wineboot;
# install wine depends - not sure if all of these are needed
env WINEPREFIX="$PFXD" winetricks vcrun2005 d3dx9 physx win7 d3dcompiler_43 corefonts gdiplus vcrun6 d3dx9_43;
# copy all game installers to C:\temp
mkdir -p "$PFXD/drive_c/temp";
cp -a -t "$PFXD/drive_c/temp" ~/gog-risen2-installers/*;
# install base game
env WINEPREFIX="$PFXD" wine start /D"C:/temp" "setup_risen_2_-_dark_waters_1.0_(18732).exe";
# install dlc
env WINEPREFIX="$PFXD" wine start /D"C:/temp" "setup_risen_2_gold_edition_1.0_(18732).exe"
# run game
env WINE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 WINEPREFIX="$PFXD" wine start /D"C:/GOG/Risen2/system" "Risen.exe"

# if you would like to install the unofficial patch
# you need to trick it into thinking this is the steam version
# Assuming you installed to 'C:\GOG\Risen2' (or can change the path),
# create a text file at C:\risen2.reg with windows-style line endings
# and add the following:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Steam App 40390]

# start wine regedit then from its menus: Registry > import > (import file)
# then get the unofficial path installer from:
# run the installer with:
env WINEPREFIX="$PFXD" wine start /D"C:/temp" "risen2_unofficial_patch-setup-0.5.exe"

The patch does not overwrite any files. It adds the following files (sha256 sums incl):
./data/common/templates.p00 75c474c036d23b59ccb3c432c14dfaffc7ec4d721ee65e97c1e79e65b747bc65
./data/compiled/library.p00 9746453b13dbd88e95cdf906402e69deadf60b58d2cb2dfd02564147f1da3385
./data/compiled/strings.p00 f8a052b89e8ddaa1d2f28a7cf94b283040e8c91aa2c29e3aa6291eb9edb445ad
./r2_unofficial_patch-uninst.exe b57e912f5e9a0e8e39eb1e19a32fdd69f00a6a5c0c1eb677bebce94eec310465

To remove the patch, you can either move/delete the files manually or run the uninstaller with wine.

For a *.desktop shortcut, replace variables with their resolved paths and use absolute command paths:
Exec=/usr/bin/env WINE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 WINEPREFIX="/gaming/wine/gog-risen-2" /usr/bin/wine start /D"C:/GOG/Risen2/system" "Risen.exe"
