What works

Installing the Deluxe Edition from Steam (using a Windows version, due to the CD-key share issue that prevent proton to work), that triggers the installation of the bundled UPlay. (It will self-updates)

Creating a UPlay account, inside the client.

Activate the Game using the Steam giving CD-key.

UPlay Cloud Save, and UPlay Sync works out of the box.

Playing the Game itself (It only supports DirectX 9 mode, meaning that the OpenGL emulation is the only way to go).

When clicking "Play" on Steam, UPlay starts, log-ins, start the Cloud services, and launch the game without fiddling.

Additional Comments

It is a little safe to use Lutris, and install the ffxiv patched Wine Staging 3.19 version, along the Wine Steam runner, due to the fixes for the UPlay DRM, and the whole Internet functionality.

Vanilla Wine will hang the game to a white screen loop once the game request to synchronize the game saves to the cloud. And also the Windows version of Steam only work correctly on Wine Staging versions.
