Some Notes after additional testing
by Matthias Leitner on Thursday November 29th 2018, 16:38
Wine-Staging (no matter which version and with different settings) causes sound cracking on some systems after playing several games

cef-browser (arsenal, inventory) is not correctly working on a 64 bit prefix (there are workaround but they do not work on all systems and need wine-staging, see first point)

Windows Version need to be 8.1 or 10, everything else will prevent the game from starting

Use a different wineprefix for the Wargaming Game Center (WGC, the new launcher), as it needs different workarounds but you can link the game to the WGC without a problem
Visiting the news page crashes in-game (CEF based) browser
by Anastasius Focht on Saturday September 23rd 2017, 5:49
If you visit the "NEWS" page and the CEF browser process crashes like this:

--- snip ---
0x125936b5: int $3
Modules:
Module Address Debug info Name (164 modules)
PE 400000- 514000 Export cef_browser_process
PE 1c20000- 1c94000 Deferred chrome_elf
PE 10000000-14113000 Export libcef
...
--- snip ---

This is bug 32342

Install MS Arial from corefonts downloads (no need to to taint with 'winetricks -q corefonts', although it doesn't harm to install more fonts, even if they are not required)

--- snip ---
$wine .cache/winetricks/corefonts/arial32.exe
--- snip ---

After that the news pages are fully shown.

0.6.10 extremely unstable
by Philip Rebohle on Monday September 4th 2017, 9:23
Anyone else having issues with the latest patch? When entering the game with certain ships (especially Kagero, Yugumo, Tirpitz), the game will almost always crash with its usual "Critical Error" message while loading the map. I already ran a file integrity check. Wine 2.15-staging on Arch Linux.

Dear Philip,

I didn't have time to test this throughly but it might be worth filing a bug and linking the bug number to the known issues section of this AppDB-page.
0.6.9.0 necessary to increase the limit of the number of file descriptors
by Mario Motohashi on Thursday August 17th 2017, 4:26
Inventory or News cannot be shown (window is opened but contents aren't shown and processing forever) many times on my system.
Increasing the limit of the number of file descriptors solves this.

For systemd:
Edit /etc/systemd/system.conf or user.conf:
DefaultLimitNOFILE=8192

For non-systemd:
Edit /etc/security/limits.conf:
YOUR_USERNAME soft nofile 8192
YOUR_USERNAME hard nofile 8192
6.9.0 Seems to break it
by Kevadu on Wednesday August 9th 2017, 16:11
I've been playing WoWs through wine under my system almost since the game launched without too many problems, but after the 6.9.0 update released today I can't get it to work at all. The title screen loads but as soon as I log in I get an error about BigWorld Client encountering an unhandled exception.

by Kevadu on Wednesday August 9th 2017, 16:19
I need to clarify something:

The error I'm seeing appears to be the same as Bug #43164. I, like many others, encountered that issue on an earlier update and found it could be fixed by changing the Windows version in winecfg. However, after 6.9.0 this no longer works. I have tried it with Windows version 8.1 and 10 and it doesn't help.

Thanks for letting us know.

It might be worth reporting this in wine-Bugzilla. In case you get a backtrace please attach it to your report as well as your console output.

Once the bug has been reported I will add the bug link to the known issues section.

exporting environment variable PROGRAMDATA to work around.
See bug #42423 and #43515.
WoWS crash on start post update 0.6.6
by Matthias Leitner on Thursday June 15th 2017, 9:20
After patch 6.6, you need to set your windows version in winecfg to win8.1, win2008 R2 or win10 to avoid a crash on start
