HOWTO

Apply Louis NtQueryInformationToken hack.
Install winetricks , if you haven't already. (apt install winetricks)
Install .NET v4.5.2 (winetricks dotnet452)
Start the WhatsApp installer and let it crash
(The installer executes a .NET application which will not work in Wine with windows version set >= XP, .NET tries to use uiautomationcore.dll on newer versions.)
Set the windows version back to XP.
Install the 2010 and 2013 VC runtime (winetricks vcrun2013 vcrun2010)
Create a copy of msvcr100.dll and name it msvcr100_clr0400.dll in system32
Go to drive_c/users/$USER/Local Settings/Application Data/WhatsApp/app-version
Run WhatsApp.exe --squirrel-install version
