What works

Other than the installer, the game itself works great! Not sure if its improvements to WINE, or the new 1.2 patch, but the performance issues during battles are GONE.

What does not

  • The Installer crashes in WINE no matter what. (It's Advanced Installer Enhanced UI or some such). I had to copy the game files and registry entries from a working Windows install.
  • Fullscreen is a little slow, but it's the same in Windows.

Workarounds

What was not tested

Played from the beginning through the first town, and also with a different save 5 badges into the game.

Additional Comments

1. Obtain the game's files. The Pokemon Uranium installer does not run with WINE at this time. There's several ways to get around this, but the simplest is to just copy them from a windows install. You need C:\Program Files (x86)\Pokemon Uranium Team. Run the Patcher and make sure its patched up to 1.2. No, I won't send the files to you because I'm not part of the dev team. 2. Set up a Wineprefix for Pokemon Uranium. On your Linux machine, open up a terminal and run the following commands: $ mkdir ~/pokemon_uranium $ WINEPREFIX=~/pokemon_uranium wineboot $ WINEPREFIX=~/pokemon_uranium winetricks directplay directmusic dsound d3dx9_36 devenum dmsynth quartz You can change the "pokemon_uranium" to whatever you want. The first command creates a directory in your home, the second sets up a new, 64-bit wineprefix in that directory, and the third runs winetricks to install some native dll's in the new prefix. 3. Put the game's files in place. Move the "Pokemon Uranium Team" folder you obtained in step 1 to ~/pokemon_uranium/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/ 4. Run the game! Use this command to run the game. Put it into a script or launcher to simplify things; $ WINEPREFIX=~pokemon_uranium wine64 ~/pokemon_uranium/drive_c/Program\ Files\ \(x86\)/Pokemon\ Uranium\ Team/Pokemon\ Uranium\ 1.0/Uranium.exe
