What works

The game seems to function properly with everything I've tested.

What does not

Without the workaround, the game would freeze on startup.  With the workaround, no problems have been encountered so far.

Workarounds

Installing the Microsoft DirectX runtime seems to prevent any major issues for a large number of games, and it seems to apply here as well.  You can get the DirectX runtime directly from Microsoft: https://www.microsoft.com/en-u...

Note that you simply need to install the runtime.  No overrides or special settings are needed for this to work.

What was not tested

I've only tested it so far to see if the game would start.  Once I had control of the ship in the game, the test ended for now.  My video hardware is currently below the game's minimum requirements, so the game is operating somewhat sluggishly for me.
