What works

Game runs under both 64-bit and 32-bit prefix.

Gameplay works without any apparent bugs.

What does not

Terrain has a weird effect where some of it only gets re-rendered when you move the mouse. It looks bad, but doesn't stop you from playing.

FPS is obviously not as good as in Windows.

Workarounds

You have to symlink the d3dcompiler_47.dll from game/client/x64 or game/client/x86 to game/client for it to run.

What was not tested

Any of the DLCs.

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: Nvidia
  • Driver: proprietary

Fixing install on Steam
by Storm Engineer on Saturday November 18th 2017, 15:07
If you installed through Steam, you may run into the following issue:

You click the Play button, and you get an installer with the title "Zenimax Online Studios" and text "The Leder Scrolls Online is preparing to install" but after progress bar completes nothing happens, javaw.exe hangs and no launcher or game starts.

What happens is that Steam downloads the game files but not the ESO launcher, which the broken installer tries to install, unsuccessfully - however, it downloads it to Temp, so all you need to do is extracting it from the downloaded archive and place it where it needs to be:

0; Kill "javaw.exe", if you didn't yet.
1; Navigate to: ~/.wine/drive_c/users/[[Your username]]/Temp/
2; You will find a directory (aka folder) wit the name I followed by several numbers, eg.: "I1511038374". Enter that directory. If you have tried launching ESO multiple times you will have multiple directories like that, they contain the same data, so any of them will do.
3; Inside navigate to: InstallerData/Disk1/InstData/ You will see an archive named "Resource1.zip" - extract or open this archive.
4; In the archive navigate to: $IA_PROJECT_DIR$/src_path/ You will see a directory called "Launcher" - copy this "Launcher" directory to ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/Zenimax Online/
5; Click the Play button again. The launcher should show up after a few seconds. Now the Launcher will start to download patch data, which will take a while. A progress bar is shown. Once it finished, click "Play" on the launcher.
